I've been on dealing with various customer service/billing entities for four hours now: hospital billing error (or non-error), mailed medications lost and USPS website down, wrong medication price charged on lost meds, different company billing error. No wonder I'm behind on homework.

Amazing the amount of high-falutin' justifications that come out of Rush Hospital's billing supervisor for the double-billed facility fee: they're a teaching hospital. The AMA says they "can" bill separately. A different instrument was used to get a different view... But I can read too... 1/2

Note: #AnthemBCBS (nicely) told me "hospitals can bill what they want." My skimming of insurance guidelines - including Medicare's - says if one procedure is "integral to" the other, hospitals can't bill separately. But what do I know? I should call the IL Attorney General to ask their opinion.

Medical billing, one month in: Today I discovered the term "unbundling." It's a form of medical billing fraud. Like when #RushOakPark takes one procedure code, makes it two, and charges two $1000+ facility fees. Seems to be THE magic word to escalate directly to the billing manager! 🤔
