I cannot tell you how much I love talking to @charliejane.bsky.social about movies. She immediately understood why we had to talk about forced feminization and cute robots. And now you will too! Check out the latest episode of @ouropinions.bsky.social, wherever you get your pods!

The Sauútiverse is expanding! Following our inaugural Locus and BSFA award nominated anthology Mothersound, more is coming. Bigger, bolder, better. With more stories set in this unique Afrocentric shared world. If you don't know what the Sauútiverse is, get familiar!

Convergence Problems was one of my favourite books last year. Filled to the brim with utterly delightful gems of stories.

Am I trying to cast a spell? Hard to tell.

Nebula award voting closes soon (on Feb 28, my birthday, heh!) I have eligible work in the novella (GANGER), novelette (ENCORE) and short story (UNQUIET ON THE EASTERN FRONT) categories. All are on the recommended reading list & free to read to SFWA members.🙏🏾 www.sfwa.org/forum/ballots/

It's very disappointing to see so many companies rolling back their Net Zero plans and investments.

Prepare to be spellbound by SHIGIDI AND THE BRASS HEAD OF OBALUFON by Wole Talabi, a gripping and wonderous heist novel that reimagines African folklore in a bold and modern way. Learn More: astrapublishinghouse.com/product/shig...

Up next on the reading list is Shigidi and the Brass Head of Oablufo by Wole Talabi. An African written fantasy tale set all over the world with a very interesting start. I feel like this will be hard to put down #blackbooksky #booksky

Not sure exactly why this bus sounds like someone screaming for help every time the driver brakes but it's very disturbing.

Rosarium Publishing is open to submissions for their PLANET BLACK JOY anthology. We’re looking for spec-fic stories between 3-7k words about joy and pleasure by women and nonbinary folk who identify as Black, African, or Afro-descendent. Deadline is July 1. rosariumpublishing.com/planet-black...

The joys of being a bookseller, showing off the new titles you're excited about. #booksky

Based on a series of conversations last week, I'm surprised at how many people don't realize the extent of the damage that the current US administration is causing globally. Of course we are all primarily concerned with issues in front of us but this mess will take years to undo around the world.

Continuing my Oscar movie watch, I just saw Emilia Perez, and well, that was... something. A bizarre mix of elements that sometimes works brilliantly and often doesn't. A kind of French arthouse telenovela. Not great overall. The best part of the movie was Zoe Saldana's brilliant performance.

This was a great novel — nightmare gods and twists and turns. Definitely worth a read.

Just read Shigidi and if heists and mythology inspired adventures are your vibe absolutely go find a copy of this!

Yep. Asking your local library for an authors book is almost as good as buying the book yourself so please go ahead and make those requests.

I have read these books, and they're good

SHIGIDI is one hell of a novel. It's dream gods disrupting the world order with the power of heists. You've got to read this.

Shigidi and the Brass Head of Obalufon is super fun, fast-paced and heisty. If you missed this when it came out, you should take a look!! bookshop.org/p/books/shig...

This is an excellent book with a propulsive narrative, great turns of phrase and some very creative scenes and imagery.

As awards season ramps up and Hugo voting kicks in, just want to remind everyone that TL Huchu's Edinburgh Nights series is excellent and absolutely deserves your consideration for Best Series.

One of my favorite books of 2024--also a great read if you need a bit of escape from the current terrors.

Very grateful for how well my novel SHIGIDI has done internationally and critically (9 award nominations and 1 win!) but sales in North America have been tepid. So if you're in North America and you enjoyed the book, kindly talk about it, get it for a friend, leave a review. It all helps. Thanks!

Watched Conclave yesterday and thought it was excellent, even if the plot was fairly straightforward. A 7.5 on the difficultly scale but a 9.5 for execution. I am still wondering how the movie didn't get a best cinematography nomination at the Oscars because every frame was a painting.

Always nice to see reviews that get a story. This is for my novelette "Encore" in which I was going big for that SF sense-of-wonder. Its in the Deep Dream anthology and the review covers the entire anthology. girotix.blogspot.com/2025/01/deep...

There is a lot of overlap between boxing and dancing which is probably why I'm quite average at both.

Because I have an unreasonable compulsion to quickly run numbers for fun and profit, here's an observation on the 2024 Locus Recommended Reading list regarding #AfricanSFF. wtalabi.wordpress.com/2025/02/17/s...

Locus, Hugo, Nebula and BSFA awards voting windows are open. Here's a reminder of my eligible fiction from 2024, Some of which already appeared on recommended reading lists and the BSFA longlist. I hope you'll check them out and keep them in mind as you make your ballots.
