I now understand at a level that I did not understand yesterday. Sounds ridiculous, but it’s true. I will do what I can, even that just means being more understanding and supportive. Like many. I wish I had the power to do more.

Yeah. I normally veer towards escape, but this was riveting. And I’m not sure that it’s that much of a distortion of reality than a logical consequence.

If there’s a way to scale back if necessary… I know it’s a bummer scientifically and having to make deposits on facilities well in advance presents a huge complication. And now we also have to worry about US scientists attending due to funding uncertainties. What a 💩 storm!

Ha! I think that accepting that life has no inherent meaning but still being decent about the whole thing are compatible thoughts. Maybe even linked. I have a harder time with your other example!

I can only hope that not having to write PEDPs won’t change how most of us operate. But axing the supplements and other funded programs for ES scientists is going to be a real killer, and just when it seemed the field was gaining momentum…

Too clever in my opinion, but who knows these days! If I were a dean and had to write 200 of these, I’d seriously consider it!

for some of the things Hagan said, but was respectful and engaged. The killer for me is that I like this guy, or at least I respect him. That he is being punked by people who have never done and honest day’s work in their life, and don’t respect him, and just want to use him, really kills me.

Exhaustion, apathy, support, unawareness? Probably all of the above?
