The original IBM had A B C and D for floppies. E: was the first available HDD. I did some work at Texas Instruments and their PC's always had E: for the HDD and they wondered why they didn't sell! Duh.

*nix has been growing in the desktop space and this is down to one factor - a realisation that average users hate CLI.
As an engineer fine.Its part of the job. A new or converting user being asked to follow tutorials with CLI commands? NO! π΅βπ«

Yes. BNC was a holdover from 70's test equipment. I do smile though when doing networks upgrades - finding a a BNC patch bar in an old network cabinet. Or a BNC port hiding behind a built- in cabinet that hasn't been seen for 30 years π
