probably forcibly updates it on the client side when you first install the update, i.e. you can keep the old pfp if you never update lol

Many people are saying this

taking a beautifully constructed piece of 25-year-old technology designed to stand the test of time and shoving a shitty web API into it that won't work 5 years from now should be a crime. 1000% chance the raspberry pi or whatever they shoved in here breaks before the crt itself does

back when wii games were still sold it made sense to give nintendo the benefit of the doubt and say "look we arent pirates we just wanna do cool hacks!" but now? everything that transpired in the 3ds and switch scene is proof that nintendo hates you no matter what. no point in acting nice to them
comment in response to post
yeah i dont blame you for reading it that way. i get why marcan is spiteful about his work reinforcing piracy bc back in the day the pirates were the ones stealing his code and reselling it for money but he should know better than to keep acting like copyright infringement is The Enemy.
comment in response to post
like he just says "copyright infringement" as if everyone is supposed to think that's a bad thing. but it's not 2008 anymore, any goodwill for nintendo has dried up after decades of mistreating their customers. everyone thinks stealing code from nintendo is based and cool except you, marcan
comment in response to post
yeah you do have a point there, i think it's a big messaging failure on marcan's part to even mention the leaked SDK stuff in this statement instead of just focusing on the open source code being stolen. i don't think he realizes that he's the only corporate bootlicker left in the homebrew scene
comment in response to post
like i don't think you understand the context here. marcan is not "attacking the hub for homebrew" it's literally his own project. his "spite" is for the libogc developers because it's thanks to their lying to him that libogc is a dependency for the entire homebrew ecosystem
comment in response to post
why would the person who invented wii homebrew (marcan, who wrote this readme) try to get Nintendo to shut down homebrew? wtf kind of conspiracy theory logic is this

"the accidental benefits of the free software movement: a global community...sharing code without pay...have been hopelessly devoured. all they had to do was strip away the pesky moral movement that all of these efficiency gains carried with it - and voila. money." (from j3s.sh/thought/dron...)

i like macos but if VR not working is what's stopping you from moving to linux you absolutely cannot move to macos

I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that this whole "smoking gun" is just a wildly unethical, IRB-unapproved social science experiment to take the exact same bullshit the MAGA people claimed about the 2020 election and flip it around to 2024 to see who falls for it.

it can, just not officially 😈 the disc drive can't read GCN discs but you can still load GCN ISOs by running Nintendont github.com/FIX94/Ninten... in wii mode memory card writes get redirected to a file on the SD card, and you can even use real GameCube controllers via the USB adapter!

says the guy with only one wii u 💀💀💀

comment in response to post
and ofc you can still hook up to a crt with the component output...i dunno if 240p VC titles work on wii u though i've never tested it
comment in response to post
what makes you say a wii u isn't as good? the default video output in vwii mode does suck ass (overscan + shitty upscaling) but you can overcome that if you use homebrew to patch the vwii into 480p mode and then use an external upscaler, and apart from that it's pretty much identical to a wii

but only buy them if they are open source hardware sold at cost e.g. MiSTer! Analogue et al. can eat a bag of dicks for their baseless propaganda war against software emulation

while watching the direct i said to my friends "we're in the era of preinstalled interactive tutorial games that explain the controller to you"...and then they said it wasnt preinstalled...and you have to pay for it...

posts like this are exactly what i want to see. we need "vibe coder" to be universally understood as an insult
comment in response to post
fun fact: 3ds and switch game cartridges use volatile NAND flash chips that will fail far sooner than the mask ROM used by older systems. everything is shit now and there is no preservation without piracy

it doesnt require an internet connection anymore they changed it
