Tradition states that last night Jesus emptied out all the jails. Spent Saturday night telling people “I don’t care what you did, people weren’t made for prisons.” The next day to prove His point He broke out of solitary. It is finished. Easter is incompatible with the carceral state. Happy Easter.

I'm quite comfortable with abolishing deportations and giving every immigrant and refugee a home and food and education and a job and safety, and if you object on the basis that we don't give citizens those things, my answer is simply that we should be giving those things already.

I feel like this deserves the attention of @infinitescream.bsky.social

Thought it might help some people if I reposted this on here

Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord Art credit: Evans "Yegonizer" Yegon

One thing that’s nice about having a liturgically tradition with received texts is that it still works in years that you’re not feeling it and don’t have answers to the most pressing questions that the holiday raises.

Oh, you people of power, your hour is now You may plan to rule forever but you never do somehow! So we wait in silent treason until reason is restored And we wait for the season of the word of the Lord We await the season of the word of the Lord Bernstein & Schwartz

I hate the Narrative Lectionary with the fiery passion of 1,000 burning suns. The RCL has its problems, but this Lent has been so hard, and all of Easter looks unbearable. Holy Trinity cannot come soon enough

Trying a new tack to convince my students to do the reading for our classes. No more, "It's your education; value it." Now it's: "The fascists don't want you to have access to a liberal arts education - especially about the history of interwar antisemitism. Reading for class is anti-fascist praxis."

I'm feeling unique levels of rage over [gestures broadly at everything], but this might be the straw to break the camel's back today

No matter your station in life, there is astoundingly little separating you from those men in that cage behind Kristi Noem. No charges, no attorneys, no hearings, no trial. Just conjecture and brute force could be enough to justify completely dehumanizing you, too.

The real story is that unnamed unknown Yemeni children died as a result of that cringe Signal disaster. Somehow that seems to be lost in all this.

being an indie bookseller in the helltimes has felt both very stable and very stabilizing, and part of me wishes everyone could be on my side of the counter for a little while, because I think it would help some of you be a little less cynical and doomy right now. so here is my VERY anecdotal data:

I think the reason most democrat politicians don't feel a sense of urgency is because they're rich people who enjoy the prestige of public office and like performing the rites to some degree but ultimately can't be super bothered by what doesn't affect them and may even make them richer

I'm old enough to remember back in the early 2020s when the US federal government provided free breakfast & lunch to children at all public schools for like two whole years, and also expanded the child tax credit causing child poverty across the entire country from sea to shining sea to fall by half

Madeleine L'Engle; this is why they want you illiterate

You might think JD Vance asking seniors "don't you have jobs" is him being out of touch. It's not. They expect you to work until death. They don't value the elderly because they can't produce (unless they are elected.) not producing AND having a cost? Ewww. Same with kids.

I think what is making everyone so angry isn’t just the cowardice of Senate Democrats, it’s their cowardice in comparison to the random normal person who runs for school board to oust a Moms for Liberty freak

I witnessed last year's protests at U of C. If these people are afraid of a few dozen tents on the quad, some speeches, and a little singing, they shouldn't have anything to do with running the country.

Where "normal" looks indistinguishable from "human trafficking."

I would like to see statements from the presiding officers of the denomination, from bishops, from cardinal rectors, from seminary professors, statements demanding the immediate release of Mahmoud Khalil

Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return. +:) #AshWednesday #ReturnToTheLord

everyone: wow being a librarian is so cool you just get to read books all day your local librarian: today I had to break up a knife fight in the encyclopedia section

“‘Are you still willing to help me?’ ‘I am,’ said Mr. Butterbur. ‘More than ever. Though I don’t know what the likes of me can do against, against—’ he faltered. ‘Against the Shadow in the East,’ said Strider quietly. ‘Not much, Barliman, but every little helps.’” JRR Tolkien, LotR I.10.
