I think what is making everyone so angry isn’t just the cowardice of Senate Democrats, it’s their cowardice in comparison to the random normal person who runs for school board to oust a Moms for Liberty freak

The president's motives are clear, his polls are underwater and the stock market is nosediving but Dem leadership thinks they have no choice to do what he wants.
What drives me crazy is that the opposition strategy appears to be "wait for public opinion to turn sharply against them" but also "prevent their actions from having the sort of catastrophic effects that would drive public opinion"!
No, it's their cowardice and then acting like it was a difficult decision. Oh, "should we stop the house from burning down or just leave" and they picked go on a date with the arsonist
Why are you so sure it’s cowardice? They expect no love from the GOP, yet face hate from their own party
…. It seems wrong but courageous to me… What am i missing?
These past couple of months, anytime you criticized the Dem party, a lot of center-left folk would retort with something along the lines of "what can they do."
Now that Dems have publicly shown that they won't do anything even when they have the chance, a lot of those people feel betrayed.

YES. It's the federal agency employee who resigns or gets fired rather than agree to an illegal order, the voter who spends hours at a town hall, lawyers filing case after case to throw sand in the gears. People are standing up in their own ways. And then in DC, legislators roll over. Appalling.
was at a school board meeting in my rural town in 2021 watching complete psychopaths threaten members (everyone out there has guns) over mask mandates, all 3 elderly women on that board voted to preserve the mandates with shaking voices knowing they were gonna be followed into the parking lot after
like, this town had 2,000 people, not only did they know what car you drive, they knew were you lived and worked and who all of your family were. The spinelessness from Senate Democratic leadership is a thing to behold
I ran for a state rep office 20 miles from Idaho on a progressive platform, fully as far left as imaginable from looking at me, including arm-the-proletariat talk.
yes there were death threats.
that's the risk you take when you want to do public work! chickenshits all of them.
It helps to remember just how many genuinely don't care what Donald and Elon do so long as they get to keep their lucrative insider trading and safe seats.
Chuck Schumer is a disgrace. I have never been so pissed off as I am at the senate. Hey Chuck go join the republicans. We don’t want you anymore. AOC, go after his seat!
"As the eunuchs were highly trusted and favoured by Emperor Ling, they behaved lawlessly and abused their power. They even built lavish mansions for themselves in the same design as the imperial palace."
The Democratic Party leadership actively work to prevent those randoms from getting anywhere beyond the school board, because their purpose is to ensure that nobody works against fascism in any effective way. You're *supposed* to break your heart trying, so you won't try anything else.
Unconsciously, ppl see the contrast btw DEM's capitulation while being coerced by actors who can't be trusted to honor their commitments, & Zylenskyy holding his ground vis-à-vis Trump/Vance in the Oval Office last week, while Russia attacks his nation.
You can't even call it cowardice, because that at least has a connotation of self-preservation. Like it's cowardly to not go over the top of the trench, but at least there's a logic of not getting shot. To refuse to unholster your gun as you're being stabbed isn't cowardly, it's just suicidal
I went to call my senator (Shaheen) to discover that she announced her plans to step down next year. It seems like important news to forget to skeet about, don't you think @shaheen.senate.gov ? Please don't forget us little people while serving the Fourth Reich. Because we won't.
The rest fought for us. We should be raising up the names of those that voted NO so that we can determine who we want to assume the leadership role that @schumer.senate.gov abandoned.
For my entire politically conscious life, Democrats in leadership have show *FAR MORE* zeal and urgency when it comes to chastizing, harassing, or even persecuting the left/progressives, than standing up to the fascist wannabes across the aisle.
Let us also turn our eyes to the market rebound as soon as the vote went through. A vote that hung the House Dems out to dry. Yes cowardice but also this shambles of messaging and optics and “after all that” working an intraparty Y vote anyway, fait accompli.
All I need to know is that my worthless centrist Dem rep Tom Suozzi voted no while both my Senators voted yes. The House did its job, I can’t imagine how furious Jeffries must be.
Like Joe Biden, they all likely believe they can watch Morning Joe and get the left and right side of every issue, they have no theory of mind of their constituents.
Two things are true:
1. Congressional Desms desperately need to find opportunities to fight back against Trump and give their voters hope.
2. “Shut down the gov’t in order to save it from people who want to destroy it” was a dumb strategy that would have made things worse.
They keep hitting us up for donations so they can fight against trumpledthinskin and maga republicants when you know the old gray hairs stopped fighting for US years ago while we expect them to incarcerate the insurrectionists again for good this time
Undoubtedly. It’s imperative that all of these cowards face a primary from someone brave enough to do the minimum. And don’t forget that the reason they are reluctant to do basic leadership is because neoliberalism literally isn’t that, it’s just capitalism by any other name and they aren’t capable.
we can do better. and we can't rely on them to help us. we gotta do stuff together, to help each other.
you are needed. you are important in this world. your mind and hands can do things.
don't pin your hopes on officials.
pin your hopes on yourself and your community. we are all we've got
Senate Dems aren’t incompetent, they’re outdated. They have served this country valiantly in the past, and their serve is appreciated, but now it’s time to pass the torch to younger leaders who are ready to meet this moment. Doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate your service, but it’s time to step aside.
None of the problems in this country affect any of these people. Sure, some of them might care to make some changes but more than anything I think they just want to keep doing what they're doing and keep getting rich as public servants.
What's especially amazing here is usually they have the people in at-risk seats like Ossoff vote with the GOP "because they can't win their red district/state of they're seen as just reflexively opposing Trump", but this time it was the ones like Ossoff voting no and retiring/safe/not up in 2026
Senators voting yes, which I can only take as meaning they know even red state people want them to fight so they needed to give Ossoff et al cover to look like they are.
Plus nevermind all the swing/red district House Dems they apparently stabbed in the back with this.
Also also, yes I stuck my neck out more on some local stuff last year than any of these Dem Senators have stuck out their neck against Trump, that's definitely accelerant on the fire here.
For real. It would have been much more helpful if they had told us, that they were unfit to stand up for ordinary people who need them, in their campaign speeches, rather than years into their terms in office. Part of that's on voters, but liars aren't innocent just because they get away with it.
Not only that but the school board members are right at the front lines taking the brunt of this bullshit. You get elected thinking you’re going work on sports budgets and instead you’re making plans for when the gestapo comes to arrest children.
Thinking of the mother who heard her children were in danger, drive to the school, found her kids' classrooms, broke the windows and got her children out. All while the cops allowed children to die rather than lift a finger.
Dems are the fucking cops. I want their mass resignations, TODAY.
You can REALLY tell the difference when someone actually loves and gives a damn about protecting someone.
Senate Dems will, apparently, let our loved ones be put on the trains while considering MAAAYBE asking for 0.5% fewer trains, but then decide that it might poll badly with undecided voters.
Earlier this month I was thinking of the mexican woman whose daughter was murdered so she spent the rest of her life infiltrating and killing the people responsible
Me too, idk why but her story is so touching to me. She went out there and did what needed to be done, and died doing it. I hope and and her daughter are in a better place now
I think it’s not just that she was desperate and angry but strong and determined. She marshalled a courage & steeliness that she herself probably did not realize she had. She loved her daughter that much.
And in a world where everyone who has a duty to us has abandoned it, dear god, I long SO desperately for people who are willing to put themselves on the line for us. To BE that person. We've all been failed over, and over, and over. The idea of someone who will FIGHT for you makes me want to cry.

He learned a lot about how to defeat the Democratic Caucus.
I’ve got 4 year olds that show more courage walking to school in the morning than my senator of 30 years
Absolute cowardice by Durbin (who’s apparently turned off tagging)

The average 18 year old I served with in the WA National guard had more courage in combat than the 10 Senate Democrats in civilian peacetime.
Not only are they too craven to fight for us, now they've dropped all pretense about giving a shit.

"Oh so you want TRUMP TO WIN?*
"but it's her turn, Obama boy" - 2007
"third party? spoiler, Republicans will win!" -2011
"shut up Bernie bro, this is the most important election of your life" -2015
"only Biden can get in the Black vote, give up" -2019
2023: here's someone you didn't want last time.
it's never ended
Cowardice compared to anyone who, daily, has to accept insults and threats because they stood up for what is right
