I've never considered myself patriotic because I've never been comfortable with the idea of patriotism. I realize now that I've only ever seen it as a form of nationalism. I've only ever seen it as an assertion of supremacy over others. That's what American patriotism is. That's what MAGA is.

The unified voice from a month ago has become scattered and faint. Now unspecified "actions" target some symptom of the regime instead of the regime itself. It's as though the theocratic authoritarianism can stay, but if I don't buy potato chips on Tuesday maybe they won't take away 40-hour weeks.

We need another unified mass protest. April 5 was a good start, with potential for enormous growth, but April 19 was meager because it was not unified. It doesn't have to be centralized to be unified, to have solidarity. We can easily triple April 5's numbers, but things have become too segmented.
