Freeports and SEZ special economic zones: 12 UK Freeports are located inside much larger SEZs, they range from 34 to 75km in diameter. Free zones are expansionist experiments in corporate governance/deregulation.

See a video of last night's ISW meeting on YouTube with David Powell on Special Economic Zones, Freeports and the rise of a new, aggressive, neo-liberal capitalism. youtu.be/WNPIkqc4x7k?... Independent Socialists in Wellingborough ISW is recognised as Wellingborough DSC as part of DiEM25

'One of the most surprising findings in the study, said Smith, was “how much [marine heatwaves] accentuated storms on land and the number of people that were hit by that – hurt, lost possessions, [suffered a] monetary impact or lost their lives”. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Commitment to fossil fuels and abandonment of low carbon by BP is overwhelming clear. Now, LESS THAN 5% of its capital expenditure will go on ‘low carbon’ - and half of that is on hydrogen and CCS, not *actual* renewables!! #bp #netzero #climate #investorbriefing

So, BP goes back to petroleum (again). And ten years on, we still haven’t learnt that Big Oil doesn’t change its DNA. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

'A spokesperson said: “BP abandoned any pretence of caring about its massive climate impacts as it recommitted to oil and gas. Now, by recommitting to their partnerships with BP, the British Museum and Science Museum have done the same.' www.theguardian.com/business/202...

'When they talk of “personal liberties and free markets” they mean their own liberties to become even richer and more powerful, as the rest of America slides into worse economic insecurity and fear. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Starmer's Labour Party are allowing corporations so much power they can sue the UK Govt for billions over breach of contract. What is the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA)? open.substack.com/pub/european...

Labour and Blackrock colluding to turn Britain's green regions into 'natural assets'. The new 'natural' infrastructure that is now being unlocked is about moving nature into a debt-riven corporate model or racket. open.substack.com/pub/european...

What have I been saying for the last 5 years? Deregulated SEZs and Freports are the gateways to privatising the UK. BlackRock will privatise Britain – our housing, education, health, nature and green energy – with our taxpayer money as sweetener. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

It looks like the Transport Secretary barely gave a thought to the climate damage of Gatwick expansion. She described expansion as “a victory for holiday makers.” Such inspiring climate leadership - not! news.sky.com/story/gatwic...

Elon Musk’s DOGE team is eliminating jobs at the vehicle safety agency, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, that oversees Tesla and has launched investigations into the deadly crashes with his company’s cars. Yet another reason I’d never buy a Tesla.

A history of under investment at the water company? I’m astonished. #TheArchers

Did you know that in a handful of soil there are up to 100 billion bacterial cells, 50 km of fungal filaments (hyphae), 10,000 living creatures mites and nematodes, and up to 100 worms and isopods? Forests protect and promote healthy soil.💚☘️🌱🌿🌲🌳🍀💚

Great piece on the meteoric success of the Elizabeth line. It shows that investing in new public transport doesn't just create new travel options, but new jobs and homes too. www.theguardian.com/business/202...
