never mined monero but i suppose there are mining pools like for Ethereum (pre-PoS), where you don't need to run a full node yourself, just connect the miner to the pool π

hardware hackers turned it into a sport to crack secure boot on ESP32 mcus, each time it's improved they find another way - so i'm not surprised you found something too after prodding long enough π

just found this on "Austrian Craigslist", Pro 4 i5 (8gb/256gb), not damaged, with keyboard and pen, for β¬100 - depending on your needs this might be a pretty decent deal!
Are you based in the EU?

if you want this exact form factor *and* good linux support, there's not too much choice out there unfortunately.
otherwise you might find suitable "2-in-1"s like framework 12 or the tuxedo infinity flex.

you could probably cut corners, and get away with only ~β¬120 for screen and battery replacement on certain models, and try to find a good deal that includes keyboard and pen.
the kickstand is indeed nice, though i wouldn't buy it only for that, a case with an integrated stand would do ok too π

tbh i didn't expect it to get so expensive, but i got carried away π
my brother fixed other surface pro's before for cheap, the displays of older models are cheaper and i didn't want to risk aliexpress here π
comment in response to

for reference, this is my shopping list:
β¬80 surface pro 7+ with shattered screen
β¬200 ifixit screen replacement + glue & screen protector
β¬50 aliexpress pen + keyboard cover
β¬40 new battery from ali
β¬60 bigger ssd
β¬10 usb webcam
some thermal paste
as you can see it adds up quickly π

i'd only recommend it if you can pick up a used/smashed one for cheap though. i'm quite happy with the results, i'm even using it for work, though it's not perfect, and camera support is limited to old models

yeah got it for similar reasons, i'm refurbishing a Pro 7+ (i5/8gb ram). went with plain Ubuntu as of ram constraints, but the real secret sauce is not the distro but this, giving you full multitouch and pen support:
