And finally, here is our fearless leader (aka YIMBY Action’s Executive Director) Laura Foote speaking in support of family (up)zoning ❤️
We need to build more homes if we want the YIMBabies of today to be able to afford to live in areas of opportunity tomorrow!

Many NIMBYs mentioned skepticism around upzonings actually helping create affordable housing.
Good news someone who works in that sector actually spoke to this and confirmed it does! We need to legalize dense housing!
The bad news is people continued to come up and say that it wouldn’t. 🤦♂️

This next commenter tooootally supports affordable housing.
As long as it meets a long list of requirements and is the right size, right design, right character, etc.
Needless to say, you can probably guess where this one was going 😭

Next, we heard from a first time homeowner and a first time public commenter 👏👏👏
The speaker really drove home something that every YIMBY knows: world class cities are that way because of the people in them!
If we want vibrant communities, “we need to build more and build up” 🔺🔺🔺

Next we heard from an urban planner, so we knew this would be a goodie 🤭
This person is a longtime resident who has watched the consequences of down zoning and is ready for a change. Someone gets it!

This speaker is arguing against the reazoning because it would… mess up their *checks notes 📝* “funky neighborhoods.”
Once again it seems neighborhood character > prioritizing the actual people who create the neighborhood character!
Converting empty spaces is cool though, so there’s that.

First off, here is some context about the rezoning plan. The administration believes this plan could be a crucial component of the city’s state-mandated plan to accommodate 82K new homes by 2031.
Here's a Chronicle article with more the nitty-gritty details:
