Seattle/WA State subsidizes Amazon to the tune of $609 million. No wonder @mayorofseattle.bsky.social put his mug on those anti-social housing mailers…

I knew Della, though not well. Car violence, in all its forms, is terrible… www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news...

Ouch…

New @cascadepbsnewsroom.bsky.social, after the first round of counting Tuesday, Seattle voters are poised to pass a new tax on businesses to fund the Seattle Social Housing Developer. The two school levy renewals are also passing by huge margins. www.cascadepbs.org/politics/202...

The early results are encouraging with a message that is loud and clear: Voters want Seattle leaders to do more to address our housing crisis than sit on their hands. Thanks to everyone who voted YES for 1A, the full funding option for Seattle’s social housing development agency!

I don’t know Katie Wilson from @SeattleTRU or anything about her. But does anyone know if she’s available to run for @SeattleCouncil or if she would ever consider it? She seems like a natural leader, writes intelligent pieces for @TheStranger and we really need new blood…

I apologize for my generation, though I’m really a Boomer-X hybrid. The folks who would have been my older brothers/sisters are mostly a lost cause — though there *are* a few of us trying to make things easier for those coming up behind us… 🌳🏠🏘️🏡🏢🏡🏘️🏢🏡🏘️🏠🌳

THREE days left! Polls show that 1A and B are neck and neck. All the usual suspects who don’t want to pay their fair share (Amazon, Microsoft, Weyerhaeuser, etc.) are gathering to defeat 1A, a social housing initiative that originated from people tired of waiting for the city to take action…

“Contribution Records Show Most of the Money Funding Prop 1B Isn’t Even from Seattle... 61 percent of their funding comes from Bellevue, Redmond, Mercer Island, Fort Worth, Texas, Washington DC, and Los Angeles…” #YESon1A www.thestranger.com/news/2025/02...

Competing social housing funding measures are on Seattle's Feb 11 ballot: ➡️Prop 1A backed by labor & community groups, high earners payroll tax generates $53M/yr ➡️Prop 1B backed by the Chamber of Commerce, redirects $10M/yr from existing funds @rianwatt.bsky.social @houseourneighbors.bsky.social

Rest in power, Donald Shoup, one of the most influential urbanists since Jane Jacobs. His tome, The High Cost of Free Parking, provided the framework for analyzing the costs of Car Culture in America and their impact on cities and public spaces… nyc.streetsblog.org/2025/02/08/d...

"Prop 1A generates significantly more funding for social housing through a tax that only affects wealthy corporations, while Prop 1B siphons money away from critical existing programs at a time when those funds are needed most."

#Seattle voters made their voices heard by passing I-135, but the future of social housing is on the ballot. In our latest op-ed, Gennette Cordova urges Seattleites to continue to support social housing by voting YES on Prop 1 and choosing Prop 1A. Read more:

If we help people make the rent… …then they can move on to other pressing matters. Why do you think Mayor Bruce and nearly our entire local political class is against social housing? #YesOn1A #SocialHousing #SEATTLE

A reminder for those in the back row…

THANK YOU @mlklabor.bsky.social for organizing this massive canvass today for Prop 1A & the 2 School levies. Shoutout to PROTEC 17, Laborers Local 242 and Working Families Party WA for the huge member turnout! Solidarity Forever!

For those not in the know, the city council employed tactics like violating the law by forcing this citywide initiative vote to an off-year special election cycle to give opponents a better shot of defeating it…

Did you get the misleading mailer signed by our very own mayor? Harrell wants you to vote for Prop 1B because his wealthy corporate sponsors -- The Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, Puget Sound Energy, and Microsoft -- don't want to pay taxes.

General democratic political theory: Elections have consequences. Seattle City Council: Nope-itty nope…

People For Responsible Social Housing = Microsoft, Seattle Chamber of Commerce, Weyerhaeuser and a rogue’s gallery of anti-taxers. Mayor Bruce is the bought and paid for stooge for the 1%. #YesOn1A

Russel Investments, a firm with $327 billion under management, spent $25,000 opposing Prop 1A. If you think Russel Investments should be taxed to fund social housing in Seattle, join us this weekend to spread the word to your neighbors to vote Yes on Prop 1A!

NEW: With corporations pouring in hundreds of thousands of dollars into the Seattle social housing election, I made a dashboard to track who is funding both campaigns: gossipguy.net/who-is-fundi...

Tax the wealthiest businesses to fund social housing!

If you live in Seattle, you have a chance to fund Vienna-style social housing right now.

What's not to like about the "first state-wide, publicly financed, not-for-profit healthcare system in the U.S". And we'd get to "Bon Voyage!" to many for profit health insurance companies in Washington State.
