an actually worthwhile competition between politicians www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Chris Van Hollen wants you boycott El Salvador tourism (he’s right)

“Today another right fielder drowned trying to stop a home run at Tesla Field”

the thing I hate most about that rfk quote is that autistic lives have value and worth and beauty and dignity whether they are able to do the things other people do or not. no one is defined by ability or lack thereof and to frame divergence as lack is monster stuff, utterly godless

Lrs: a lot of people seem not to want you to know this but the resistance is actuslly doing pretty good. The number of protests is double what it was in 2016, and we were actually pretty busy in 2016. The republicans are afraid to hold town halls, the democrats are actually fighting about strategy

It’s not only NOT dead, it’s just getting fucking started. People don’t realise how far this will go. And if they’re genuine about what they’re saying they’re going to be mighty embarrassed

What Senator Van Hollen did was important. It got Americans focused on the extrajudicial shenanigans of the Trump administration. And the resulting blowback rattled Trump. It is no coincidence that the very next day he starting distancing him from decisions to sling Garcia into a concentration camp.

NEW: Tonight is the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere's midnight ride, and tomorrow the anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord. What do they mean to us today? From Lindsay Chervinsky, @lmchervinsky.bsky.social: www.thebulwark.com/p/lexington-...

the reason people want to believe that the modern US has always been this bad, and that there is no escalation that is unique to either Trump term, is because it relieves them of any obligation to do more than they already were while feeling really fucking smug about it

We are in an existential battle against American fascism in which everyone from AOC to Bill Kristol and David Brooks are standing shoulder to shoulder. Anyone who isn't on board or is caping for Trump to preserve "The Working Class Revolution" or whatever can never, ever be trusted again.

@newsjennifer.bsky.social: Trump blowtorches everything, including summer vacation. "Even the AARP now recommends that seniors traveling abroad study up on the 4th Amendment, remove controversial social media content and even consider getting a burner phone. Wow." open.substack.com/pub/contrari...

Man, it really does feel like we’re in the “factors leading to” section of a Wikipedia page right before we get to a section with lots of maps that have lines on it

and yet the Washington Post endorsed her anyway!

donald trump has good days and bad days but increasingly for grandpa it's only the type of days where his scheming vizier makes important executive branch appointments on his behalf without informing him. losing it. brains leaking out his ears.

U.S. JUDGE ORDERS TRUMP ADMINISTRATION TO TRANSFER TUFTS UNIVERSITY STUDENT HELD IN LOUISIANA IMMIGRATION DETENTION FACILITY TO VERMONT

They are 100% feeling pressure on this

Yes but you see, *my* galactic empire will be the good one

trump's popularity on *every single issue* — including immigration — is falling, that's street brawl territory, not targeted strike territory

using your daughter's murder to provide sympathetic cover to the lawless deportation of a completely different, non-law-breaking person is deeply, deeply cruel

Observe that the one that complied and the one that didn't comply are treated exactly the same way.

He said this like an hour after the white house account said he was a gang member & never coming back, zero message coordination

Sounds like lots more Musk v Trumpers turmoil going on. The new IRS commissioner installed just Tuesday - a Hunter Biden obsessive popular in magaworld - was pushed out today after the Treasury Secretary, who oversees the IRS, complained that Musk appointed the guy without even asking him.

Yes, Trump does have political instincts. And you can often tell when Trump senses a topic is a political loser because he claims to know very little about it and starts passing the buck.

Trump has pretty good instincts about when he's going to be in trouble, politically or otherwise, so him explicitly giving himself plausible deniability now in his statements should be interpreted as an acknowledgment that he sees some danger in the policy in general & re Abrego Garcia specifically

Ex-Republican turned Democrat: I hate everything this party stands for, but Trump is the Devil incarnate and I will stop at nothing to see him cast back into Hell. Ex-Democrat turned MAGA: Like the Donald, I became a victim of vicious lawfare after a mere 255 "allegations" of rape and tax fraud...

And when scotus gave them an avenue to get away with it scot free if they just didn’t say the quiet part out loud

It's amazing that they corncob ratcheted themselves into defying SCOTUS while their boss is probably only dimly aware of what's going on (not to bad boyar it much)

Trump is in open defiance of the Supreme Court. Schumer kept pushing off to the crisis to that point, and we’re there. So what is your plan, @schumer.senate.gov?

What should happen if John Roberts actually cared about SCOTUS as an institution and his own legacy: Releasing a statement that clarifies exactly how Trump is rejecting the authority of the court What’s actually going to happen because Roberts doesn’t care: Crickets

WOW. The Trump administration's efforts to punish immigrants by abusing the Social Security database ended up leading to a U.S. citizen being kicked off of Social Security because they accused him of being undocumented!

Yeah. It was an “accident” in the same way Putin killing a Ukrainian grandma by leveling her city was an “accident” because he didn’t mean to kill that granny specifically when he pressed the mass delete button.

You know the *only* reason he got out so fast was a reporter live posted about this for hours. And, a large amount of public pressure. Every time someone gets grabbed, there has to be a robust public response immediately.

There is no deep popular opposition to immigration, just a successful scapegoating campaign. Now revulsion at what anti-immigrant measures mean in practice, creates an opportunity to shift the conversation in favor of immigration. Excellent from @ryanlcooper.com. prospect.org/politics/202...

Can you imagine these “savvy” consultants (eg Natalie Jackson) & pundits (eg Chris Cillizza) during the Civil Rights Era? “I think segregation is morally wrong but liberals are falling into a trap marching in Selma. This is an absolute gift to Southerners.” Shoot me if I ever become this cynical.

This is some sick shit

there is no perfect hero in anything, you either believe in due process or you don’t; you accept that it applies to everyone and not selectively. it’s binary. it’s the same thing as the abolishing the death penalty and it’s something a pollster cannot understand
