What is the importance of a name? #engage Gladstone’s Library today holds a great number of pre-1900 books, typically classed as ‘rare books’ – books significant for both their historic printed texts and as representing material culture in their own right. 📚 1/5

What is ISWE? Have you ever wondered who we are, what we do and why we do it? One of our Research & Engagement Officers, Dr Sean Martin, has created a fantastic new video to share our mission across Wales and the wider world: youtu.be/Yp90AagIcKo?...

Chiswick Auctions are currently listing this lovely silver cup inscribed ‘Tredegar Prize, 1846’, awarded at one of Sir Charles Morgan’s famous cattle shows - for the best Glamorganshire breed of yearling bull - to William Powell. www.chiswickauctions.co.uk/auction/lot/...

Very sad to hear that Dafydd Elis-Thomas has passed away. Dafydd was a founding member of our Advisory Board, whilst Chancellor of Bangor University, and always remained so interested in our research. A wonderful person to speak to about heritage, place, culture and Wales.

For 9 years our ISWE pop-up banners, supplied by W. O. Jones, Llangefni, have provided the backdrop for our public events, across Wales & internationally. One of these sadly tore last week. Now looking forward to replacing with a new design & hoping for another 9 years service from the next set

Huge thanks to Shan Robinson for introducing me to the Rare Books Room at Bangor University this afternoon. What a wonderful experience! Found so many interesting books that were previously in Welsh country house libraries. Thinking about how we can make use of this resource for teaching & research.

Gyda thristwch mawr nodwn y bu farw’r Athro Geraint H. Jenkins, cyn Gyfarwyddwr y Ganolfan. Yn hanesydd praff ac un o ysgolheigion blaenaf ei genhedlaeth, gwnaeth gyfraniad aruthrol i ymchwil a dysg yng Nghymru, gan lywio'r Ganolfan rhwng 1993 a 2008. (1/4)

We are greatly saddened to hear of the death of Professor Geraint H. Jenkins, a former Director of the University of Wales Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies. An eminent historian, he was among the finest scholars of his generation. (1/4)

Delighted to have been part of the team that put this application together. Digitising this collection will make it accessible to a global readership. These documents reveal the role of imperial families in the daily workings of Atlantic slavery.

Hello All. Just thought I'd share this screen shot from #DeepMappingEstateArchives webmap of the Thomas Badeslade map created in 1740 for the Duke of Westminster showing their landholdings of the uplands of Denbighshire. Love that there are 'old shafts' indicated on this map, how old are they!?
