Honorable mention because I grew up in an indeginous village. They make a dessert called Akutaq (ah-koo-tahck) The modern version is crisco, sugar, whitefish meat, and berries of your choice. My faves were the ones with salmonberries and "quarrciq" (I think it's called sourdock in english.)

So I'm Alaskan but my mom is Thai. My fave thing ever is a simple Thai dish called "kao mahn gai" (chicken rice.) It's rice cooked in chicken broth and served with the chicken, sauce, and some toppings/sides. It's fairly simple street food but it hits fuckin home.

It is generally cheaper, most bowls I got were around 10 bucks bor a good sized bowl. Best prices (and vibes) are away from tourist areas, we found an awesome ramen/tsukemen shop near Center Minami in Yokohama that charged about 1200 yen for a bowl.

We were there a few weeks ago, highlights for us (that I don't see much online) were:
Nijigen No Mori (Awaji Island near Kobe)-Great if you like dragon quest or godzilla.
AOAO Aquarium (Sapporo)-Very nice place to chill.
And "Yakisoba Baby!" restaurant (Dotonbori, Osaka)-Awesome people and food.
