Robert “Ed” Smylie, the NASA official who saved the Apollo 13 crew in 1970, has died at 95. He cobbled together an apparatus made of cardboard, plastic bags and duct tape after an explosion crippled the spacecraft as it sped toward the moon. nyti.ms/3Sbusb3

It's a fantastic book - download it - buy it - or just borrow it and read it. The Dust Bowl Triolgy are worth the effort.

Check out my essay on language, politics, and how social media is infantilising our discourse!

How are American babies being kidnapped and trafficked under purview of the US government and NOBODY is in the streets? What a sick, fucked up culture of people.

Reddit is a god damn nazi harbour. They are removing thousands of anti-authoritarian comments, banning the accounts in the process, and the front page is so quiet from all the news related to the Trump madness.

Insanity

When historians reflect on this regime, cruelty will be the word most often used to define it.

All I ask of people who proclaim positive generalisations of what America is or who Americans are is just to offer some evidence. Because if you asked me "who are Americans?" I would say they are hateful, frightened, bigoted and cowardly. And would point to the American government and the american

Q: "How do you respond to Governor Newsom?" Sen. Van Hollen: "I think Americans are tired of elected officials or politicians who are all finger to the wind...Anybody who can't stand up for the Constitution and the right of due process doesn't deserve to lead."

I don't know how people are partying at #Coachella - parties are meant to be a celebration, but what is there to celebrate when your future is falling into darkness before you, your neighbours are being kidnapped, and your economy is collapsing? It's not celebration. It's distraction.

So another massive week of Trump destroying democracy, kidnapping innocent people, and sending citizens' social security information to Russia is yet again signed off with some cute little weekend picnics around the country. I'm kind of burnt out from caring about you guys. #protests

I'm getting more and more concerned that the reason we don't see young people coming out to protest and riot is because Gen Z really are conservatives, and everything we're seeing and outraged by is just what they're comfortable with.

The revolution will *only* be televised.

Maybe, for women, it's been fascism all along. When, beginning with the Greeks, men usurped the social order with their Reason and said "Democracy is the way of it now." (only male soldiers were allowed to vote)

I'm guessing the economic shutdown hasn't worked?

For awhile it's seemed an incredulous notion that Russia would have the ability to attack Europe beyond Ukraine given their proven capabilities. Today that notion is less incredulous when you consider the US as a puppet of Russia, and is resigning itself to be an arm of Putin's will.
