This is absolutely devastating for public health, for scientific integrity, for innovation, for all Americans. I can't string together more coherent thoughts - just absolutely devastating.

New episode of The Disability Squeeze podcast up on guaranteed income programs: open.spotify.com/episode/1r18...

very important and I've been hearing the same

The Administration for Community Living, housed in HHS, is shutting down. I spoke to disability experts for @motherjones.com about questions they have for what’s next, the services ACL provides, and how this move may lead to more folks being institutionalized. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

"Millions of people who are financially comfortable now may be just one bad break away from needing Medicaid for themselves or a member of their immediate family." www.nytimes.com/2025/03/21/y...

The richest man in the world took over $5K out of this guy's bank account, claiming he was dead. The richest man in the world said he was saving money. He was not dead.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) is reportedly going to stop allowing people without Social Security numbers (SSNs) to serve as "representative payees" for beneficiaries who need help managing their benefits. This risks benefit interruption for thousands. www.govexec.com/management/2...

The cuts underway at the Social Security Administration could wind up breaking critical parts of a system that millions of the nation's most vulnerable citizens rely on — including nearly 90% of Americans over age 65.

I’m Jewish and the son of Jewish refugees who immigrated to America, so some might accuse me of seeing antisemitism where it doesn’t exist. So it’s sadly reassuring to see that the great historian Timothy Snyder saw the Oval Office debacle the way I did: open.substack.com/pub/snyder/p...

Attention SF/Bay Area folks: If you're looking for something to do tomorrow evening, I'm going to be on a panel speaking on how disabled and chronically ill people are being impacted by the Trump admin. www.eventbrite.com/e/the-bay-ag...

Wow—this is the first in-depth public account from a Social Security exec about the DOGE takeover at SSA. It’s scary. It’s a must-read if SSA has your most sensitive data…yes, that means you. wapo.st/3DsqvLj

Social Security Disability is comprised of SSDI & SSI. Proposed cuts to SSI would hurt disabled children & their families. Roughly 1/3 of families with children on SSI ALREADY live below the poverty line & CUTS will make it DIFFICULT for these families to make ends meet. www.cbpp.org/blog/propose...

It’s hard to explain to people that republicans think that disabled children subsisting on sub-poverty level benefits need to have a lower standard of living so a billionaire can get another yacht because it sounds too cartoonishly evil.

I want to hear from people about tariffs impact people's ability to get their meds + medical devices for @motherjones.com. My signal is @juliametraux.49 and my email is [email protected]. I am Mother Jones' disability reporter.

This graph from @centeronbudget.bsky.social says it all. Republicans want to kick millions of people off Medicaid and eviscerate SNAP to pay for tax cuts for the rich.

Cutting $880 billion from Medicaid is going to have a lot of devastating consequences for a lot of people

The government talks all the time about wanting disabled people to work. Here I am working yet I can't get the medical care to keep working long term. Doctors won't fill out disability paperwork yet also won't give me the meds or treatments I need to keep working long term.

Medicaid work requirements are yet again a hot topic. Let’s see what’s behind that, shall we? 🧵 #medicaid #insurance

For @motherjones.com, I reported on how looming Medicaid cuts could deprive millions of disabled people of health insurance. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

"Our streets are now more safe. There has been a 51% decrease in injuries and a 55% decrease in crashes in the congestion relief zone compared to the same period in January 2024."

If these NIH cuts stick -- and who knows in this environment -- my whole metro will to be screwed. Not to mention the actual lives affected. Talk about cutting off your nose for spite. www.al.com/news/2025/02...

Hi, I am @motherjones.com' disability reporter. In the following weeks, I am very interested in hearing how tariff nonsense impacts getting your meds and medical equipment. My email to get in touch is [email protected]. Reposts appreciated.

We have known for yrs from the work of Ben Sommers, as well as @pamherd.bsky.social & @donmoyn.bsky.social, that work reqs don’t increase employment. People lose access to critical programs bc they increase administrative burden associated with learning about reqs & documenting continued eligibility
