I have been hearing from people that they have been having issues accessing their Social Security accounts. INSTEAD of going to a branch which may be hundreds or 1Ks+ of miles away from you, call your members of Congress. They have constituent services that will help you regain access. Please share!

It’s important to remember that the SSA website has had periodic disruptions for years. That’s not the part that’s breaking. Customer service with live humans via phone is a *cost*, not a revenue, so Musk is targeting that first. Because we must run gov’t like a business.

My fear is that the "crony system" and politicized civil service Trump is installing will make it increasingly difficult for Democratic congressional staff to do that key part of their job: working with federal agencies (SSA, VA etc.) on behalf of constituents. It will undermine them with voters.

Former Hill staffer here. Absolutely start with the district offices of both senators and your representative -- if they're inundated with requests for help the news will quickly make its way to their DC offices. Those who don't pay attention to their voters will find themselves in trouble.

Near the end of his career I traveling with my boss who served 38 years in the House. Get agent recognizes him and thanks him for a constituent service he did for her fam before she was born. She said her whole fam and closest friends have always voted for him. It matters more than how they vote.

I got into mine very easily the other night. Was able to request a new social security card--just in case. Will see how long it takes to arrive.

Brother-in-law went to local office; had an appointment and was in an out.

Their web site's IDme system isn't user friendly. Especially for older people not comfortable with the technology. Though my computer guy, who tried to help me with it, couldn't navigate the photo verification part -- and he's an expert.
