I know it's been a week, but I finally found a metaphor to explain why this was so disturbing. This is what Eric Cartman's Mom would say in some episode where Eric Cartman tries to start a genocide to exterminate all gingers/Jews/hippies. JD Vance is Eric Cartman's mom.

I love how Trump is so evil and craven that he has gotten the entire country of Canada to hate Wayne Gretzky just by association.

"economic anxiety" has been a lie since 2015

This is because rent-seeking leeches in the auto industry, both the UAW and GM/Ford, have bought Michigan's worthless Democrats. To truly expect real resistence from such swine is to be ignorant of the reality of public choice.

Maybe this is too optimistic but it would be nice if this resulted in more leftists understanding the working class benefits of free trade…

If you think this can’t happen, remember that of the 125,000 Japanese Americans who were interned during WWII for years without charge or trial, two-thirds were U.S. citizens. Including me.

We are speedrunning the Declaration of Independence, folks.

Sound familiar?

It is hard to overstate how much of a dystopian authoritarian nightmare this is, a fascist admin defying the judiciary to disappear people into concentration camps. Every lawyer and member of the DHS and ICE complicit in this must be held in contempt and thrown in a cell.

“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.” - George Orwell, 1984

The question isn’t whether a federal court can order the Salvadoran government to release Garcia; it can’t. It’s whether the U.S. government has the ability to secure Garcia’s release. If so, then it can be ordered to do so, because then Garcia is in the “constructive” custody of the United States.

It sure looks like they’re going all in on the “the executive branch can ignore court orders if it thinks the court lacks jurisdiction” thing

"a great empire will fall" absolute top tier oracle at delphi shit, 10/10 no notes

There are not enough Freudian psychoanalysts in the world to fully diagnose how dysfunctional this obsession with "daddy" is among reactionary apologists.

I hope this is right

Add to the increasingly thick "shocking, not surprising" file. www.wsj.com/health/healt...

The right used to make a big deal about how high Hillary Clinton's speaking fee is, averaging about $200,000 a pop. So far, Trump's tariff speech has cost American investors about 25 million Hillary speaking fees.

Thank goodness these anti-woke conservatives arw restoring free speech on college campuses www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

Imagine the 24-7 wall-to-wall coverage Fox News would give this "scandal" during the Biden or Obams years.

"Donald Trump and his allies have been using 'anti-Semitism' as a pretext to advance a radical agenda that has nothing to do with Jews at all—and that most American Jews do not support," @yair-rosenberg.bsky.social writes:

As stupid as he is evil...

"One of the notable things about the ongoing rout in financial markets is the fact that dollar is also tumbling. That isn’t how it typically works."

As I expected, DOGE has now “shut” the NEH. As I have discussed, Congress (a body that typically does not have standing) could make a plausible claim where DOGE Quick Strikes have dismantled an agency. This violates the Appropriation Clause. This is all wildly illegal.

Literally impossible to make up how stupid and incompetent these people are. DEI never put TV talkshow hosts in charge of millions of people's healthcare. www.msnbc.com/top-stories/...

Reminder: the publicly stated reason that Hegseth, Vance et al. - the people who accidentally texted secret operational strike-package details to the Editor-in-Chief of The Atlantic - oppose DEI at the DOD is because they claim that it might lead to incompetent people holding positions of authority.

Trump put seperate tariffs specifically on Svalbard, the northernmost inhabited land in Europe. Sorry kids, no christmas this year because Santa is tariffed.

NEW: "By the end of this month we’ll have a clear signal of the likelihood of Trump's invoking the Insurrection Act—a previously unfathomable step that would dramatically escalate the administration's already deeply controversial detention and deportation efforts." www.thebulwark.com/p/will-trump...

🚨 BREAKING NEWS: the Republican-majority on the N.C. Court of Appeals rules to overturn the decision of the Wake County Superior Court (and the voters in the state) in a 2-1 decision to disenfranchise more than 65,000 voters from LAST year’s election. ⬇️ appellate.nccourts.org/opinions/?c=2&…

Federal judge in Rhode Island finds that the Trump administration's attempt to find a loophole around his order barring them from withholding FEMA funds to "sanctuary jurisdictions" violates his court order, orders them to immediately restart payments. Clearly frustrated with DOJ and DHS here.

Monetary policy should not be directed by the Oval Office.

“At 3C of global heating, climate damage cannot be insured against, covered by governments, or adapted to. That means no more mortgages or new real estate devt, no long-term investment, no financial stability. The financial sector as we know it ceases to function and capitalism ceases to be viable.”

I guarantee by next week, in exchange for tariff relief, Trump will be demanding from companies political donations to far right causes, rollbacks of DEI, purging LGBTQ employees, and cessation of funding to civil society orgs that support progressive causes.

The crazy thing is that the last 5 months or so will all have been just a prelude to the main event if a sovereign debt crisis or a currency crisis is triggered by all this. Americans don’t understand the privilege that comes with being the world’s reserve currency and the petrodollar. FAFO though

Book burning time. All authoritarian regimes do this too.

It is hard to express, without resorting to expletives, how utterly stupid it is to suggest that the United States, world's richest economy with a population of 334 million, should have a bilateral trade balance of zero (no trade surplus, no trade deficit) with every country in the world.

hi, cis folks! so, when they release the US cass review that makes the cass review look like a trans liberation manifesto, i think you should • ask who’s making the case against transition • answer whether they have trans people’s best interest at heart • listen to actual trans people instead 🧵

This bill would have been a good idea before Trump became president and would have to, you know, sign the bill

Wow who could’ve guessed that this would happen It’s almost as if USAID was a pillar of American soft power and influence in the world It’s almost as if it was entirely predictable that America’s adversaries would work to fill the void left by USAID’s destruction

i think a pivotal driving belief of trump and these fucking psychos in general is that there is no such thing as mutually beneficial interactions or relationships. there is only domination, hierarchy and winning.

Called it.

A federal judge said he was considering whether to hold Trump officials in contempt of court for failing to return deportation flights carrying alleged Venezuelan gang members to the U.S.

We *could* one day fix the damage Trump had done to our institutions. We could get back on our old economic growth trajectory, salvage our ability to push the technoscientific frontier. But we’re not getting back the geopolitical trust we have pissed away *for absolutely no reason or gain*
