I applied to 8 programs in biology and computational biology in December. I've gotten 6 Nos and 2 have yet to reply. None of them have given any feedback whatsoever about my suitability as an applicant or how the funding issues impacted their decision.

💉POLIO VACCINE SUCCESS💉 The use of the polio vaccine has prevented millions of cases of paralysis and death worldwide.

Here is the pre-RFK vaccination schedule for your kids. Please download it before he is confirmed and changes/deletes it. Give it to your pediatrician and say this is the schedule you want your kids on. Making this my pinned post.

If you think the proposed cuts to American science are because science is unpopular, this are wrong. DON'T BELIEVE THEM. 1. 76% of Americans express trust in scientists, more than for police officers and school principals (Pew). 2. 80% say federal funding of science is vital to our nation (STAC)

“The Kansas governor was banned from closing down businesses during public health emergencies in 2021. And the legislature forbade state and county public health officials from mandating tests, isolation and closures due to infectious disease in 2023.” www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

This is how we get through it!

Pssst. Black History is American History…Pass it on.

I applied to 8 biology PhD programs in December. So far I've gotten 4 No's and 4 haven't replied. I don't know to what extent the funding freezes chaos has impacted the programs I applied to, but I'm sure even if I was admitted the funding might be more volatile than it would have been.

4 planets visible after dusk tonight. Venus and the moon pictured. Saturn was below Venus, but dim. Jupiter overhead and bright, and Mars on the other side of the sky from the moon.

I worked as a release engineer for some big tech companies and my entire job was to prevent some of the smartest people I knew from making some of the dumbest mistakes I've ever seen. Mistakes are ubiquitous, and we built some vast safety nets to avoid the common issues but stuff always slipped thru

First NIH, now NSF. The Trump administration is just straight-up anti-reality. They're going to shut down any government source of empirical data and continue to promote anti-scientific rhetoric.

I sure picked a stellar time to apply for PhD programs in biomedical sciences. 😭

@philplait.bsky.social I'm impressed with how many dad jokes you managed to sneak into an article about astronomical sphericity. 10/10 would angrily shake my fist again!

we all have an emotional support dead famous guy and who he is says a lot about you

The Tulsa Race Massacre is a critical lesson in the outcomes of organized and entrenched systemic racism, the consequences of sensationalized media, and how such horrendous events can be buried and hidden from public record.

I feel like Musk did to Tech exactly what Trump did to politics. Trump normalized being racist, homophobic and not even pretending to care about your neighbors. Musk is normalizing tech bros being weird just cause they can. They don't even pretend to be normal caring human beings anymore.

www.scientificamerican.com/article/jimm... This is really incredible work on the elimination of Guinea Worm. When I learned about the parasite it was nightmare fuel, and it's so heartening to learn that the disease is nearly eliminated. I really hope we can wipe out other diseases in a similar way.

The right wing worldview is so decoupled from reality that a factual representation of history, current events or science is "woke" and biased. Wikipedia is one of the most commonly used apps on my phone specifically because it has correct and easy to access information on lots of topics.

The Royal Institution Christmas Lectures began in 1825 in London at the direction of Michael Faraday. They were an opportunity to bring the general public to hear a lecture by an eminent scientist that captures the imagination. They've been held every year since, except for 4 years during WWII.

"Even if hundreds more such plants were built, they would not come close to counteracting even 1 percent of annual carbon dioxide emissions." I'm excited to see carbon capture technology develop, but it's not going to get us out of the gigantic hole we're in.

@digglelab.bsky.social Nothing like finding a lab's art page to make me regret my choice to not pursue bio artwork as a career. 😆

"The breadth and ambiguity of the campaign against “ultra-processed” foods make it vulnerable to sloppy thinking and manipulation by pseudoscience purveyors like RFK Jr." Pseudo-science thrives on poorly performed or communicated science like this. Good on Vox for calling them out.

@hankgreen.bsky.social got my good.store socks today and they're amazing! But why does the bag smell like curry!? 😆
