War between two heavily armed countries is not a normal means of effecting political change and the stability of our entire international system post-WWII is premised on state sovereignty and non-aggression.

This is an excellent example of a point I’ve made a few times lately: You know this is nonsense. I don’t care if they can dig up some Harlan Crow subsidiary judge to say it’s legal, you know it isn’t. You don’t have to pretend it’s ok. bsky.app/profile/jami...

I note that Justice Sullivan recognizes what he's saying, and is clear that he does not intend a renegotiation of SCOTX's traditional welcome to certified questions.

They also aren't raising significant revenue. Income taxes raised about $5 trillion last year. The $60 billion increase in tariff revenue will be offset by a larger DECREASE in income tax revenue. It's a net loser.

the opposition to tariffs stems primarily from the fact that they’re a regressive and damaging tax, not that they don’t raise revenue

that dude doesn't even know the argument. Since USians are the ones actl paying the tariffs, all tariffs are is a transfer of wealth from citizens to the government; and since Republicans are using them to "pay for" taxcuts to the rich, that makes them transfers of wealth TO the rich from the rest.

the other side of this is that the Times will run little focus groups and conceal the fact that half of them are active college republicans

the mainstream media has been steadily buying into the idea that science and academia are somehow "captured" by left and liberal ideologues, rather than the more obvious explanation that measured analysis leads people away from reactionary thought

the reason i'm ever optimistic is because bluesky has a near-monopoly on trans folks, the strongest per-capita posting demographic on earth. it's like having all the kenyan marathon runners.
