it's also a mini bandaid on a gaping, seeping wound

thinking about this further, white people only respond in whole to white people. we've been screaming until we're blue in the face about our humanity. I'm tired of it. let Becky n em talk to their grandpappy about racism, I'm done. now if they try to "teach" me about me and mine...

exactly!! we can't have shit, according to them. hell, even our "holiday" was jacked bc the people who need it off don't get it off.

I've taught my students saying, yes, we catch an attitude, but what happens when we close that bedroom door at night? what happens when we leave that conference room to go to the bathroom? we cannot be out in the open like our white counterparts bc again, no humanity is leant to us.

these examples are barely the tip of the iceberg. we are not seen as whole, we are not seen as human, and we damn sure don't feel, so it's easier to point the finger, play victim, and revel in our demise, then claim we're "strong" when we build ourselves back up. most times, alone.

that i was stronger than I was acting at the time. I'd never cried in front of him before this, never showed vulnerability. he broke up w/me bc of that but w/the white woman he dated and eventually married nearly killed their first kid due to depression. she filed for divorce when he wanted to stay.

our "attitudes" are never considered an underlying issue bc of stereotypes (four in total; Mammy, Sapphire, Jezebel, Matriarch). we're distilled into narrow definitions of Black Womanhood bc the idea that we're human is still lost on society. I remember a Black man i was dating told me to suck it up

I had a discussion with a couple of my closest friends (both women) about how grace is given to white women w/depression, how we are called strong by our own antagonists. we are walking targets for ire bc we are told by society that we don't matter until we are the villain of the story.

it wasn't the first time nor would it be the last. I really wanted to narrow in on depression and how it manifests in Black women/femmes and how we essentially have to handle it on our own. even other Black women in the mental health profession have failed me, believing I'm fine so why so sad?

I was reminded by a reddit thread of how I lost the job I'd ever made the most money at bc of ww tears. she decided that a coworker and I were talking shit behind her back (hit dogs holler) and started screaming at me. she cried to the VP and it was over for me. I still shake w/anger over that day.

people probably think I'm nuts but it's true. Howard Dean in 2004 lost his entire momentum bc dude said, "YAH!" during a speech. youtu.be/l6i-gYRAwM0?...
