Don't weaponize this, but I think one of the best responses you can give to someone sharing their transition timeline, after telling them how great they look, is telling them they should be proud of themselves. We don't get that a lot and it means a lot.

The actual scope of the LA protests is quite a bit smaller than the 2020 George Floyd protests in any individual city. This military response is a significant escalation proportionate to the scope of the protest. That's the story. The media is making it sound like the city is a warzone. It's worse.
