THIS HACKS EP is giving me comedy room PTSD. Signed, cantaloupe girl

I do keep thinking about how all the people who took to the pages of Harpers or the NYTimes to talk about how I was a threat to men's due process rights for inviting women to talk to each other are perfectly okay with men being kidnapped without charge and disappeared to foreign concentration camps.

!!!! Books sometimes stay alive because of teachers. Thanks Stephen!!

didn't take much for these guys to go from "big government is bad" to "what's the big deal if you're abducted by the government and trafficked to Mongolia"

We’re ending the season strong! 🔥 Don’t miss the Antler River Poetry finale featuring readings by Nathanael Jones and @zoewhittall.bsky.social, and special local opener CMJustice. 📅 Wednesday, April 23, 6:30-8:30pm 📍 Central Library (note the venue!)

This is where your Harry Potter money goes

The student paper at the college at which I teach reports a "tsunami of takedown requests" from international students terrified of being targeted for innocuous, legitimate op-eds & opinions.. Many ask in person--leave no trace in writing. Reminds me of my father's account of studying in the USSR.

It's now been over a month since Trump sent innocent man Andry Hernández to one of the world's worst prisons because of "Mom" and "Dad" tattoos. Like the others, he is being imprisoned with no contact with the outside world. Don't let him be forgotten.

Man films and confronts two suspected undercover ICE officers (potentially NYPD) after they racially profiled and handcuffed a random civilian. Keep doing this shit. Make these fuckers famous. Make all police and immigration officers fear having their faces known to the masses.

I’m doing a little CW teaching for the first time in over a decade and is it normal that every second story is dystopian?

I think that if someone says "birthrate" to you, you should get to slap them across the mouth once for every thing on this list that they don't believe in * vaccines * free pre-natal care * free healthcare for children * universal pre-k * free childcare * free school lunches * vaccines again

Oh that sobering realization that you're giving your creative writing students notes on their novel that you yourself desperately need to hear.

Jesse Singal, a transphobic bigot who has dedicated a large portion of his career to spreading misinformation about LGBTQ+ people, is baffled that John Oliver would do a single episode debunking his life's work

"Then I stopped being able to ride my bike for even a block without a coughing fit. Then I got out of breath climbing stairs. ...My girlfriend was a paramedic and she would park the ambulance outside my house and let me huff the oxygen." zoewhittall.substack.com/p/kicking-si...

Ok the thing about the Hacks premiere is how is every season even better, like what other show has been this consistent??

Parents of teenagers or teachers - I need ideas for the types of movies a drama-nerd or film obsessive teen would be really into right now. Besides Wicked. Like what would be the today equivalent to a teen in the aughts who liked Donnie Darko?

Bad timing for more Black Mirror. Life is confusing and surreal enough right now.

Everyday I think about the fact that iceland jailed the people responsible for their financial crisis

Snow in April makes me feel like the second to last contestant on Alone who is about to lose their marbles.

I wrote about: - White Lotus ending /my puzzlement about Chelsea & Rick's 'great love' - why I omitted certain details from my last post because - i'm a exhausted ever-masker who doesn't get upset at people who aren't masking anymore zoewhittall.substack.com/p/the-battle...

I would’ve learned to drive a lot earlier had I know about the activity called sitting alone in your car listening to music.

“the more the novelist experiments with form, the lower the Goodreads rank will be” yup and that’s why some publishers try to dissuade you from it, no matter how sharp or interesting.

90s/2000s: You buy your eggs at a well-lit store, they are cheap. You get your weed from a filthy hippie you only know as "Feather". 2025: You buy your weed at a well-lit store, it is cheap. You get your eggs from a filthy hippie you only know as "Feather".

This is high art

traditionally, one of the strongest negotiating positions is when the entire world viscerally hates you

That ending was very tidy and truly both a surprise and inevitable, as the cliche goes.

Omg Belinda has become Tonya in this convo. It’s almost the exact same convo. Clever.

Kind of a nice time to not understand even one bit of the stock market. (Despite watching Industry).

I fear this is a Dynasty wedding reception ending we’re heading towards on White Lotus.

My only white lotus theory is that Chloe knew Chelsea and befriending her was on purpose for some nefarious reason.

Rob Delaney is so good in Dying For Sex. Both boyfriend characters are much more complex than lovers usually are. And I usually hate queer side characters but Robby Hoffman& the palliative nurse, both add such richness to her quest. A funny, sexy show where people are fully human is so rare.

The season has shifted: it’s eavesdropping on women who are travelling in a group and trying to grocery shop time.

Another wow why is this show so good, oh it’s FX

Dying for Sex is so good I want to space out episodes so it lasts longer.
