My thoughts exactly. My union organizing, card carrying communist party member grandpa (may his memory be a blessing) would have been delighted at yesterday's outcome

"We" by Zamyatin is fiction
Lots of sci fi about resisting crushing conformity to dare to be or think differently, like a Wrinkle in Time
But for this moment I think I would recommend Charlie Jane Anders "All the Birds in the Sky"

I love what they're doing with it. Like The Magicians, adding new material but staying faithful to the vibe.
And they're turning it into a cliffhanger based serial, I love it

How would a sapient AGI programmed to maximize its owner's wealth behave? I don't think it would necessarily challenge the owner intellectually. Sounds more like a supervillain in a sci fi novel

wow so the insanely high electricity prices here are what happens when the corrupt deal gets repealed
which would be fine if it was because Ohio had gone 100% green
comment in response to

so at one point do our electricity bills go down $100 / month?
Is everybody really going to jail for this but the corrupt deal stays in place forever?

There aren't that many Dem politicians who have been elected the executive of a state that has an economy larger than many other high income countries and a grassroots secession movement. This allows, nay requires, Gov Newsom to say certain things, even though his politics otherwise suck

Yes, the indicator created by white supremacists to explicitly distinguish between white kids and black kids in the 1920s finds that it is a good predictor of "success" as well, as defined by white supremacists. That was how it was explicitly designed, it's not surprising or insightful.
