Did you know that when zebrafish swim, this motion evokes calcium signals in their *blood vessels*? Bill Jia and Xin Tang showed that this effect is mediated by Piezo1, and only requires physical motion, not neural activity or blood flow.

I was looking at WHO's data on baby growth: in the first 4 months, babies grow cubically (weight ~ length^3), as one may expect for a 3D object. Then, the baby's length quickly outgrows their weight, settling to to a power ~1.8 after 2 years-old. Anyone knows what controls this transition?

Really cool finding in mitochondria! We saw reversible tension-induced pearling on neuronal axons (www.science.org/doi/full/10....). More generally, pearling can easily triggered by (suddenly) stretching a membrane tube😁

If some calcium enters a dendrite, how far does it diffuse? Rebecca Frank Hayward (who is on the job market!) measured this. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... She combined a blue light-activated Ca++ channel with a red-fluorescent Ca++ sensor. The length constant is about 5 microns.
