If your books were published before april 22 of this year you can still de-drm them with older versions of kindle PC software, and there are people working on newer versions (though nothing easy-to-use yet).

Interesting. I knew about the april 22 deadline but I couldn't get it to work in time and it sounded like they were cutting off the old apps, not just that they were introducing new drm for post-published books. Will this work even for books downloaded after the deadline?

so i haven't tried this myself since it's been a hot second since I needed to de-drm a kindle book but this forum post seems to indicate that you can still de-drm old books for the moment:

This is the same company that tried to ship a modular cellphone exclusively in Puerto Rico for two years only to stop trying because the product manager quit. Once the product manager for this one faces any friction, they'll quit and it'll get buried.
