Yep.

The number of research clients I see making requests asking us to find resources/duplicate search results they found conducting their own searches using Chat GPT or similar is **deeply** concerning.

Had the parent of a 5th grader come in with a list of journal articles they wanted for a science project. I searched for a few and most of them didn't exist. I asked them where the kid got these titles from and they said "Chat GPT," so I then helped them find actual real not made up sources.

I used to do technical writing before AI ate those jobs and one of my red flags I raised about using the tech at all was that it invented medical studies that don’t exist so fact checking it takes longer than just writing it normally anyway i was laid off like a week later lmao

Oh my god yes, I got shitcanned from my tech writing job almost 2 years ago bc the head of engineering insisted we replace the perfectly functional automated customer service bots I made with AI ones he designed. I raised several concerns, did all but say "I won't do this" and was fired 3wks later.

I haven't been able to get another tech writing job since and I doubt I'll ever work in the field again bc it's basically been vaporized. I'm going back to grad school to go into social work bc I'm hoping that's the one job I can do that they can't automate away. It's grim out here.

It's so bad, Tony. I finally finished my late-in-life tech writing bachelor's in 2021 when the DoL's stats boasted average salaries of $75K a year, and now the field is literally just gone. If you won't work as an AI editor or you don't have some highly specialized skill (e.g. nuclear) you're done.

Seen several lists of non-existent books in the last couple of months, it's a thing that library staff are having to be aware of now - if you can't find evidence of the book existing it's worth asking where they found the details before continuing the search
