One mustn't, both ways, confuse salary with GDP.
Babies lead to more spending, less saving, increasing GDP.
A large number of low wage immigrants can increase GDP IF they build an asset: like a trans continental railroad.
But if low wages are to suppress investment, then its bad.

Not to be a jerk, but this seems so absurd. You are arguing its good to have lots of immigrants to do exploitative work, specifically citing the railroad, but if they don't do that work, its bad. If the lens on immigration is whether we get value from exploitation, the lens is bad, not immigragtion.

Immigrants will always be brought in to control wages & conditions. Its not necessarily exploitative, but there is a high danger of that. What makes the work additive to productivity is if they are working on investments, rather than services to be consumed.

Good point. Eliminating the most efficient healthcare would likely have a similar, though slightly less pronounced, perverse effect. Eliminating the measles vax would lower the numerator, not by much, and the denominator. Eliminating the least efficient healthcare would do worse by this measure.

It's the PER CAPITA part that he's commenting on. GDP is one of a few measures of total productivity. The per capita part adjusts for population when comparing countries, since more populous countries have more production just by having more people. Economists dig deeper below the simple numbers.
