"Microsoft will no longer provide free software updates from Windows Update, technical assistance, or security fixes for Windows 10. Your PC will still work, but we recommend moving to Windows 11."
These creeps. They've been trying to force us into Windows 11, with its stupid ads etc. Now this.

Thank heavan for that. Those 'upgrades' piss me off.
When my employer gave me a Windows laptop, I figured it could just run Teams and I would otherwise ignore it and get work done on my Linux workstation.
Ignoring it has proven hard. It's a needy, bitchy little thing, always updating and popping up unsolicited windows.
(This is my first comment on bluesky 🤭🤭🤭)
The "you'll never have to upgrade ever again!" OS
Mint is very similar to windows so it won’t take to much time to learn.
Also Linux is open source, so it’s not full of a bunch of data collection bs
For your files, Linux can look into your windows files so you should be able to access your files.
A lot of Windows apps have their almost equivalence for Linux, but key word is "almost"
Freeeeee
I use n*x systems feom eighties and I use Linux on every day bases, but almost exclusively on servers
If they ever made it mandatory, we would have companies openly saying they are moving to Linux
Also, their point would be to run LLMs locally like Phi3-Small and Mini but they probably think it's immature still due to bad NPU sdks on most if not all NPU out there.
They are selling base model laptops with W11.
All my machines from here on out will be some flavor of Linux.

"Empower every person... blah blah." No. They want you to compute THEIR way. Not as bad as Apple, but getting worse.
Microsoft has just lowered people's expectations into the gutter, and made them think this is normal.
.. actually I take that back. It looks like fvwm released version 3 just a few months ago, and I hadn't noticed until this conversation moved me to check!

No adverts, quick updates, free software....
What's not to like?
Why put up with those clowns?
Also how easy is it to install and learn to use? And does it interface with email in a sense of one being able to easily attach a file? I have to attach files, as a writer, and send them through email.
And there's no problem with attaching files to emails.
The Linux equivalent of the godawful Office package is called LibreOffice & it can read & write MS formats easily.
Well worth a try.
It runs on older machines with very little bother, so if you've got one MS tells you is "past updating", you can use it as a test bed.
I did, & never went back.
There are lots of versions - Ubuntu Studio was my preference.
Also, if your machine can run Windows 11, just update. It’s been way better in my experience.
W11 installs without any hacking on vms that clearly don't meet the requirements, and, with various hacks to bypass the install checks, on many systems. It has been clear from the start that the restriction is bs.
Personally, the only thing I hate even more is Microsoft Bing.
If Frankenstein, instead of creating a monster, had set out to create a perfectly useless search engine, he would have made a Bing.
2) It’s only in the start menu
