Yeaaah, why is it ;he’s/it’s) so happy to send others in space…why doesn’t (he/it) jump in one of (his/its) rockets and go (him/itself)? To make sure (he/it) returns, we’ll put the 🍊🤡 at the controls! One lost in space, one electrocuted! Happy Days!
I wistfully pray that Americans (and Earthlings in general) can focus on the good here at home, and care about our collective welfare going forward. But sadly, I think it's gonna be a long-long time before they do.
Not a place to send people. Weightlessness causes permanent damage to human bodies over time. Utter nonsense to send people to Mars. An enormous waste of money. A contradiction to pay directly Musk hundreds of billions of dollars to do this, yet appoint him to run DOGE.
And unlikely ever will be. As NdGT says, if we somehow develop the means and ability to terraform Mars to make it habitable, we could terraform Earth and make it more habitable at much less cost.
"All this science, I don't understand"
Such a weird line in that song.
"Hey, I just fly around in spaceships, I don't mess with any of that science crap."
I say Elon Musk and DonOLD trump’s family go and claim Mars as their own. Let them be the first to try and live on Mars. Oh and don’t forget RFK Jr. They can have their KKK planet and leave us alone.
Especially... "The newly proposed strategies provide the potential to return the samples to Earth as early as 2035, or as late as 2039, and with costs that range from $5.5 billion to $7.7 billion"
Cold enough to freeze carbon dioxide at the poles. The most serious issue, though, is that it has no magnetic field, which means that there’s no protection from solar radiation and no way to prevent any atmosphere that might be created by terraforming from being stripped away by the solar wind.
There is also no protection from deadly cosmic rays, save for the Sun’s own magnetosphere. However much humans may want to establish a colony on Mars, the fact is we can’t control the radiation everyone would be exposed to. It isn’t sustainable.
I think the best depiction of the challenges of colonizing Mars is in The Expanse. Terraforming will be hard especially without a magnetic field to protect any atmosphere being stripped away.

Take out the garbage!
And all this science —- hey, wait! Let’s send Leon and his Orange Shadow to Mars!
