The tokens are still unfunged. But they never contained the actual image data, just a URL reference. And, of course, that URL can't be updated because... You know.

I don't think I've ever heard a compelling argument for them. And tbh almost every "proper" use case for blockchain I've heard has been unconvincing.

I could never with my green conscience partake in NFTs knowing the carbon footprint of each was eye watering high, then just as the price collapsed they improved the energy wastefulness through the roof.

It's a fascinating sociological/financial story. I remember how active they were on IG and a podcast I listened to. It was like watching that old guy in the library with the gift cards you talked about, just with more hype and younger victims.
