When can we start to have a serious discussion about whether to join the Customs Union?
- Removes many of the barriers that have reduced UK-EU goods trade under the TCA
- Doesn't require freedom of movement
- Avoids getting trapped in the middle of a US-EU trade war
What are the counter arguments?

Reeves last night: “We will not be reversing Brexit or re-entering the single market or customs union but we must reset our relationship.”
A contradiction in terms.

Most UK news media are controlled by right-wing anti-EU people. The BBC has been infiltrated at the top level by the Tory party. Politicians are scared of xenophobic voters.
The UK should benefit directly from Europe's trade deals. And that would lessen the sovereignty question by putting more weight on the joining side.
The EEA's EFTA pillar is closed except maybe for CH.
GB must live with the current TCA or agree to everything EU + no new A50.
The doors are open in Brussels, we all know the conditions (Copenhagen Criteria)
The CU with Turkey includes only some types of goods and are surely not preventing queues or paperwork.
It's much better for Turkey than no deal, as their A49 membership application has been put on a very long term hold
I'm a socialist, though admittedly a moderate one, & will not vote Labour till they sort their shit out over #Brexit & #ElectoralReform
1. Governments own forecasts show hit bigger to our economy of not being in single market than CU.
2. We would have to leave CTPPT and Australia deal?
Working towards an exit strategy is worth it even if you have to go along with Trump's demands initially.
Yet another good reason to join it.
How is that growth mission looking?
“But Chancellor, surely this is just rejoining the Customs Union dressed up?”
“Oh no: this is a brand new growth reset ensuring our trade with key partners will get the boost that hard working families deserve”
Feels like we’re in a ridiculous holding pattern at the moment and we have to move on from this, as soon as we can.
What's interesting is that the Brexiters have managed to poison the well so much that even Labour people are talking about independent trade policy and CPTPP as if it were Agincourt.

Freeports are stupid not dangerous . https://committees.parliament.uk/work/7747/the-performance-of-investment-zones-and-freeports-in-england/
Hopefully we will now that grown ups are in the room.
And a far better short term option than the SM.
Just a thought.
(There aren't any).
Act 1 Trump introduce 20% tariff across the board and 60% tariff on China
Act 2 EU reciprocates
Act 3 WTO collapses
Act 4 UK is double hammered by lower export and, perhaps, more competition from China and US
It would require consensus/unanimity in the EU Council (the PMs) and this will not happen - it simply won't
