In fishing we (incorrectly) think that the skippers are the owners of the boat and, more importantly, the quota.

As with farming there is a "landlord" over layer that takes much of the profit without putting in anything.

No part of the English economy can thrive with this weight on their shoulder.

In Grimsby it was largely these "landlords" selling out the quotas whenever a skipper looked to sell up to retire which really killed the industry.

Just as today the agriculture landords are allowing farms tenancies to lapse so they can sell the fields for housing estates.

Remember - the impact of the Tory’s hard Brexit was particularly bad for fishing because 1) the sector exported a lot to Europe 2) is highly sensitive to trade barriers (famously fish needs to get to its customer quickly…). Almost no sector was worse affected 👇
