1. Retailers didn't like what their data was saying about shoplifting trends. So, after three decades, the National Retail Federation just stopped collecting data about shoplifting and invented a dubious new metric

Glad to know most likely a nefarious plot by retailers to exaggerate retail crime.
The NRF simply stopped releasing actual data and instead released a report based purely on what retail LP divisions "perceived" to be a problem.
That's not a "change in methodology" that's just skewing the results in your favor.
Subpar journalism.
A decline in utilizing a moral compass.
AKA "the Trump way."
I would think that they would want to sposor a report that says shoplifting is down. I mean, wouldn't an alleged 93% rise mean their products aren't doing the job?
I actualy agree with him that Sensormatic probably produced the report to convince retailers to buy their products, but the danger is that from another angle, it doesn't actually make them look so great.

Itβs a problem they could solve immediately.
Oops, how did that $20 organic honey get in my bag and accidentally not get rung up in the self checkout. Iβm such a clutz!

That is if it isnβt already happening.
I'm a blue dot in a sea of red, it's sad to see the ignorance.
I have noticed that lately many stores spend a lot of money locking their products behind glass, but this guy says it's all a hoax, wow! that makes perfect sense! These companies are known to spend money like this for no reason at all!
Anyone surprised? I'm not. It's the same as a lot of homeless on corners asking for π² somehow disappear after elections. Despite cold.
Here's my most recent take on the same story: https://theservingtimes.beehiiv.com/p/shirk-after-reading
Rather Republican of them, don't you think?
Several employees quit soon after because of that treeatment. The store LP and mgmt tried to intervene and were told to butt out. She quit too.
Does every Walmart really need four uniformed dudes standing around inside the front door?
The customers pay the cost of employing themβand they earn a hell of a lot more than Walmart employees do.
That is identical to the total shrink in the industry the survey found in 2019.
The survey has found shrink has been at roughly the same levels for decades.
In lieu of the usual survey, the NRF released a report called "The Impact of Retail Theft & Violence 2024"
Instead of collecting DATA about shrink, the new report surveys companies about their IMPRESSIONS of shoplifting trends
It was immediately picked up by outlets like the New York Post and Sinclair
The new NRF report says it stopped collecting data because many retailers lack "the resources or capabilities to collect and track retail theft."
And yet, the new report claims shoplifting increased 93%
"Sales associates can gain visibility into possible theft situations when high- value items, multiples of an item and non-apparel items are taken into the fitting room."
Still confused. Can you be seen in the fitting room?
