BREAKING: The Senate voted 51–48 to pass a resolution blocking Trump’s Canadian tariffs from taking effect. Four Republicans — Sens. Susan Collins, Mitch McConnell, Rand Paul, and Lisa Murkowski — joined all 47 Democrats in supporting the measure.

Please, Canada here - we are grateful.
But, decent folk that we are, eh, just thought you should depose the Orange guy who is annoying just about everyone else too - except ruzzia of course.
That's another reason to depose him, eh!
That too, along with a lot of other stuff. Maybe it's a job to be outsourced to Ukraine? They're gunning for Putin & tRump's right there behinie him..I mean behind him. 🤣❣️
Don’t get too excited. Clearly these paste eaters didn’t learn the first time he was installed and honestly I think they profit from it -they played all sorts of Herky jerky games last time around/ conserve your energy- false hope is one way they drain us
Mitch is retiring after his term is up; my guess is that he doesn’t care about fellating the felon’s fetid baby carrot anymore. I hope we can boot Paul out though. Can’t stand his ass.
Shouldn't trade deficits be a given when the top economic country is buying/selling to smaller economy?
Example: US GDP is approx 30T, Germany's is approx 5T
So if we spend 300M on German imports, in fairness, Germany should not be expected to reciprocate more than 50M, basically a 250M deficit.
Isn’t there anything that can be done about the house and Johnson not allowing a vote for this?!!! Can the ACLU, or any group, sue him for disenfranchising citizens? Congress is paid by us, & in DC to vote on our behalf, so by stopping congress from voting, he’s also taking our right to vote away.
How many of these voter representatives are getting kickbacks for lobbyists?
Isn't it time these representatives of the American voters -who voted for them to protect voters' interests, who pay their salaries - stood up and defended the American voters' interests. Trump's in it for himself.
The sad part of this vote is that it doesn’t reflect true sentiment. If it was a private vote, I have feeling it would be 100-0 pass. The fact that Congress can keep their jobs while millions suffer because they won’t help them demonstrates that they aren’t working “for the people.”
But now the House needs to come through and they don’t have to bring it up for a vote because they are stuck in lala land - with their one day that is really many. Ridiculous manipulation. And Americans suffer.
Yeah, they'll tuck back in when their orange daddy goes on another midnight crazy and puts them in their place. They've all caved time and time again, this time won't be different.
But nothing will come of it because Speaker Mike Johnson has fixed it so the House won't vote on it. Therefore it can't go anywhere. But it's interesting that the Senate is shifting slightly.

I think the others just cut a deal. They knew those 4 wouldn't lose any support so nothing to lose. The others could "play pretend" they were supporting him, knowing it was DOA.
Exactly. Passing like this, by the skin of its teeth, but passing, strongly implies that the GOP Senators met quietly somewhere and decided who would vote in favor, while the party as a whole would appear still strongly supportive of whatever Trump wants.
True, but another way to look at it is its only 4 for now. 4 that can take the initial flack for going against Trump to see how their base reacts and probably have the least to lose, making it easier to bring more over in the future. And given any are willing to make the jump is a victory.
As soon as this passed, the futures started rallying off the lows. The Democrats had to stop the bleeding. Maga will have no idea why if it claws its way back.
Well, Maine is right on that northern border and does a crapload of business with Canada. She’s known for toeing the party line (while expressing “concern”), but these tariffs would be a knife to her state’s throat. Even she’s gotta have breaking point.
I would agree except they never came to same her ass before !
All the republicans ( Except Tommy the simpleton Tuberville)
Know that the Tariffs are a really stupid idea that will hurt their constituents . They may be doing it so that some of the others don’t have to.
Two of the senators from states that share a border with Canada and two from the state that depends on exporting whiskey to Canada. This was not the moral courage we’re looking for.
McConnell is retiring. It’s all irrelevant at this point. The others have been semi vocal and Paul has voted against several things. The overlord threatened to primary him like two weeks ago.
Unfortunately our system doesn’t work like that. I wish they could. They all know this man is a lunatic, but are too afraid to go against him. It makes me so angry.
Republican Senators worried about a potential primary in 2 years better wake up and do their jobs now! If they don’t step up now there may be no economy to worry about in two years.
Two from Kentucky : Bourbon lobby. Canada is sending their booze back.
Maine: tourism industry. Canadians go to Maine beaches. Everyone else : “it’s too cold”. Alaska: all their food comes through or from Canada.
It seems the writing is on the wall. Hopefully, more Republicans will come to realize that Donald Trump poses significant challenges and is a major concern for the economy.
However strong our policy differences with them may be, pls join me in thanking these GOP Senators for their courage. We need to encourage more of the same!

Please tell your audience how Mike Johnson has f***ed us by ensuring that no bill has to come to the floor. That of course ensures that the House cannot join with the senate in standing up to this tariff bulls***.
This is not a bill, it is one of the mechanisms for terminating a “national emergency” under existing law, US Code 50 USC 1622. It does require a corresponding resolution in the House ( unlikely) but there is no Presidential veto.
It's procedural and symbolic. But that's how it starts. With a few showing a little courage here and there. First Luna. Now McConnell, Murkowski, Collins, and Paul.
Change happens in slow increments at first ...
Will they immediately make another one like this to cancel Trump's tariffs against European countries with which the US has a surplus, like Spain?. If they don't, the surplus with Spain will disappear.
I wouldn't hold my breath... even this is just a symbolic move because the house has no plans to take it up and vote on it, so it's not going anywhere.
Then there will be war. My faith is not in men, and no war talk, especially not Trump's, will erase my faith. From what you're saying, it's a joke. Do they plan to use that majority for something serious, useful?

We still need to mid-term them.
Example: US GDP is approx 30T, Germany's is approx 5T

Romney was similar--though he'd get things right more often.
Well well well well well well well.
Well, fucking GOOD.
And fuck trump.
(I'm mad tonight.)

Respect every opponent, but fear none!
The Senator put itself out there. They’ve given Republicans cover.
Speaker Johnson-bring this bill to the floor for a vote!

Maybe more will evolve.
Shitzinpants is going to string together a tapestry of 2:00am Tweets letting us all know how he feels about this.
When you start losing THIS collection of assholes, you're truly a historic dumbass.
Fixed it
Stand up to Trump. You know he is destroying America.
All the republicans ( Except Tommy the simpleton Tuberville)

How is there an emergency for world tariffs????
Should be Congress
Big whoop.
Maine: tourism industry. Canadians go to Maine beaches. Everyone else : “it’s too cold”. Alaska: all their food comes through or from Canada.

4 isn't really a majority and maybe one or two voted by mistake too...

They still need to get a 2/3rds majority in both chambers to override Trump's veto.
We're gonna have to suffer a lot more unless the GOP congress is forced to budge.
