did he really just say the European Union was formed for the sole purpose of taking advantage of the USA? yesterday he was selling cars on the WH lawn to get his buddy's stock up. Harry Houdini is working hard on getting 25th'd to the golf course full time isn't he
He’s just making up tariff numbers as he goes. Just like in his speeches. There is no planning or calculation to get to that 200% figure. Just a rage reaction from a toddler typing on his phone.
I'm not a wine drinker, but in Finland we have this one fancy winery that makes a beetroot wine that has great reviews. Though it also has lemon in it too!
But I suppose it doesn't taste like "regular" wine though!
You can make an alcoholic beverage from almost any fruit or vegetables, particularly carrot or parsnip, Although I think the fruit ones taste better. Not sure anybody would really want to make cabbage wine.
California does, but they have to state on the bottle that it's produced in California. It's still only sparkling wine as the true champagne is only made in Champagne, France.
Little Donny Two Scoops just doesn’t get that you don’t f*ck with the French, does he? I’m sure the keepers of the guillotine blades are sharpening as we speak
You missed the humour. The USA doesn't produce any champagne today. Champagne is only produced in the champagne district in France. That's why it's easy to double the production. 2x0=0
The Orange Blob don’t understand the concept of a free market. If USA buy more than sell to a country, he think they are abusive and treat USA bad. Why don’t you try to produce something worth buying?
Korbel is the only US company that can use the name Champagne. It was grandfathered in' and is not close to being as good as wine from the Champagne region of France.
Although the point everyone is making is correct, I’ve been expecting Trump to break international trademark law and rip up agreements that prohibit the use of classic European wine names (PDO) such as Champagne by producers outside the region.
US winemakers did indeed make “Champagne” in the past.
In NZ, they used to call it 'Method Champenoise', but that too was forbidden by international agreement. Now it's called 'sparking white wine' or 'sparkling sauvignon blanc' or sometimes 'method traditionelle'. Not champagne.
Where are the US wine producers going to get their bottles, foil caps, and cork? Spoiler: all of that comes from the EU. This will hurt US wine producers and distributors.
To be fair, some of the Coppola wines are very good. The Oz Clarke and #JamesMay California Wine Adventure show highlighted some actually excellent drinks.
But, yeah. I lived in France for a few years, and it basically became normal drinking "Sparkling Wine" (Champagne) every day as it was cheap.
Australian and California wines compete pretty strongly here in Canada in normal times. For French, Italian, and Spanish, we typically only get the high-end varieties, so less quantity and higher price tags.
As though I needed more reasons to be glad I don't drink alcohol. I'm sure his impoverished base will love that their self-medicating won't be accessible anymore either after their actual healthcare becomes out of reach.
Champagne comes from Champagne. What did they ever do to us? Morons probably mean sparkling wine. Political asylum vs insane asylum. Transgenics vs transgender. They know not the difference.
A few producers in California make champagne, because the United States didn't sign the Treaty of Versailles and they were grandfathered into other trade agreements.
I visited the champagne region in France. I don’t think a beverage can truly be called champagne if it’s not made there. I’m curious and will research your assertion. In any case, I don’t think a California champagne could stand up to a true French champagne. Thanks for the interesting post.
A lot of the things regarding whether or not something can be called bourbon/scotch/champagne/whatever are enforced through trade agreements. Consider it a loophole maybe, but California champagne pre-dates some of those.
Also, California is an excellent region for growing grapes...
Yes, I live 15 minutes from Napa and enjoy their Chardonnay and cabs. It was fun to look up the loophole from the treaty of Versailles. I didn’t know that the Senate didn’t ratify it, thus creating the champagne conundrum. I enjoyed your post.
It just demonstrates once again what an ignorant ‘leader’ we have. He clearly doesn’t read, his attention span rivals that of a gnat (sorry gnat); DJT much prefers to listen to his own voices, opinion, and blows off the experts and grown ups. Supreme idiot and embarrassment.
Sonoma County here as well. There are a handful of wineries that are allowed to call their bubbles "champagne." Another is Les Claypool's (Primus) place, Purple Pachyderm. I don't remember the full story on how it's allowed. I believe they may get the grapes from France. Not certain.
His victimhood complex knows no bounds. Geez, would I like to be the victim that inherited hundreds of millions of dollars to get my start in life. Boo fecking hoo.
Before you start thinking you can buy real champagne made in the United States, you can't. Wineries in the United States don't make champagne, they make sparkling wine.
Someone should really do a dummies guide to tariffs and explain it to this toddler masquerading as a grown man. Imposing high tariffs on goods will impact those importing these into the 🇺🇸 and thereby putting them out of business. As for 🇺🇸 whisky let me tell you it’s no great loss for the Europeans.
before the election he threatened john deer with that same 200% tariff, yet the farmers voted for him anyways, now he's doing it. He was always going to break the American people.
Jesus, the victimhood just never ends! Doesn’t this eventually sound stupid to people as their investments tank, Social Security disappears, and EVERYTHING becomes more expensive?
Why must our nation & the world suffer at the hands of this evil, corrupt, insane, incompetent, hateful, bigoted, destructive convicted felon with the worst case of narcism we have ever witnessed? To let this one “thing” stand in the way of a mostly good and decent world and people is the real crime.
Actually there are some Champagne producers in the US such as Korbel in Northern California. However, by international agreement they are labelled "Method Champagnoise" and have a different name, e.g. "Brut."
How long do you think Trump will honor international agreements that ONLY sparkling wines produced and bottled in a specific region of France can be called "champagne?"
Soon he'll suggest (or EO?) that CA or TX bubbly wine be called Champagne.
He means all sparkling wine and has no concept of what the term Champagne means. It’s like saying you’re using a bandaid. Also, the US importers of all those wines are FREAKING out right now. It doesn’t just hurt the producers in the EU, there’s thousands of American jobs on the line too.
I've suddenly developed a desire for more French wine in my life. I used to love California Chardonnays, but having been forced to say good-bye, I will re-acquaint myself with those from France.
Where do you live? There’s EXCELLENT Chardonnay from Ont., for < price of good French Burgundy/Chablis. Unlike Calif. , we’re blessed with very similar growing season climate to French, as well as the limestone soils they’re known for —Flat Rock,Tawse, Cave Spring, Leaning Post, Hidden Bench et al!
It was an ironic post - I tend to buy those when I'm in the US. But yeah, I buy excellent white wines in BC. We tend to have amazing pinot gris, so that is often my go to. I also like some of the rarer grapes, like Ortega and Petit Milo, which are grown right where I live on Vancouver Island.
My favourite Chards from BC are Meyer Family, Quails Gate, Checkmate ( ok I know I’m boojie). Yes BC Pinot Gris is very good, plus Riesling from Syncromesh & Tantalus. Some of my favourite BC reds are Syrah from similkameen valley etc
I love BC wines. Quail's Gate is one of my favorites. I do tend to shop the Island a lot, one of my favorite wineries is Unsworth's, but I like Zanatta and Alderlea a lot too.
It's a conflict of interest again. What he's doing will directly impact the revenue of his own winery. He's using our nation to wage personal business wars to steal money anyway he can.
No such thing as a US Champagne Business. Champagne can only be made in Champagne. Everything else is just sparkling wine. Been ripped off with fake US bubbles Donny?
Donald is a prat he started the whole business and he's not happy when the bitten are biting back, the sooner the USA gets rid of Trump European friendships are most likely to flourish.
Notice his use of the word “nasty” in regard to the tariffs. Why? Because the European Union President is a woman. Trump always labels women “nasty”. It shows his hatred of successful, powerful women. He is a misogynist.
That idiot has a child's awareness of geopolitics, history and current affairs. He literally has never read any books to educate himself, his entire education is formed from what he's seen on TV and what he's experienced first hand. That anything can be bought, or made in America is his core belief.

"The only wines that are legally allowed to be named “Champagne” must be bottled within 100 miles of the Champagne region in France."
He's so damn dumb

One of a kind.
Trigger of his success, I presume.
And US is about the only country that doesn't respect the trademarks of the EU.
So trump can label it whatever but it's still just American sparkling wine.
But I suppose it doesn't taste like "regular" wine though!
But he wouldn't know that. 🤨
ostentatious given the environment.
I had a meeting scheduled in Irvine during the fires. People from across the country. They decided to cancel.
Odd to celebrate with what was happening 40 minutes away
It’s basically not a good time to celebrate
But he only drinks soft drinks from the Coca Cola district so I shouldn't complain.
HE DOESN'T THINK.
PEOPLE SAY HE STINK.
US winemakers did indeed make “Champagne” in the past.
Obviously none of them were like the real thing, I believe “Chablis” was a fortified red wine!
They don’t anymore thanks to the EU using its clout to defend PDO wines worldwide.
Unless it’s actually made in Champagne when as you say “Methode Champenoise” is used.
It’s sparkling wine here.
But, yeah. I lived in France for a few years, and it basically became normal drinking "Sparkling Wine" (Champagne) every day as it was cheap.
Just the cheap bubbles from now on !!!
Joke’s on you !!!
“Baby Duck”
MAGA will never understand.
Mmmmmmmkay Mr Always Projecting 📽️
🙄
He’ll lose a lot of wine drinkers. Never had me😏
#Resistance
👇🏻
Also, California is an excellent region for growing grapes...
They've been making Champagne since 1882 (though legally it's "California Champagne").
But this tariff BS has to stop.
It's ridiculous and he's a f'n idiot.
Negotiated when the US wasn't a pariah.
🤣🤣🤣
If you know, you know.
Knowledge and worldliness was once something people respected and looked up to.
What happened?
This is not just W winning because people thought ‘he would be fun to have a beer with’.
This is the village idiot wearing a tinfoil crown and throwing his feces at everyone.
🤯
...to get my hair this way.
Somewhat rhetorical.
Soon he'll suggest (or EO?) that CA or TX bubbly wine be called Champagne.
🙄
#ChampagneIsOnlyMadeInTheChampagneRegionOfFrance!
BTW - just wondering if ICE has visited Trump's winery lately.
What do YOU think they'd find?
bugger isn’t he? 🙄

America didn’t become the biggest economy on the planet by ‘being taken advantage of’.
This victim mentality is incredibly stupid.
