Let’s build 100 new gas turbine power plants so a make-believe friend can remind bro to do curls and hit his macros why the fuck not? Whatever heralds the apocalypse I always say.
Everybody responding to this with “just make real friends” are 100% correct but also… real friends might say something he doesn’t want to hear and that’s a problem
Man every time one of those ‘how to make friends’ threads come up people push back SO hard at the idea that you have to keep up with them, reach out and plan stuff occasionally, and just generally be an actual friend to maintain them.
Even like leave the house bc of reasons they can’t. At a loss
A gym buddy is like…literally the easiest male relationship to establish with a real human. He could have exactly this for life after a twenty minute trip to planet fitness.
Here's the reality. Also, to preface, I'm blaming no one buy myself here.
It's *hard* to keep friends. Especially when there's mental illness there. I literally just forget to call them. Or don't want to call and bother them.
I've gone *years* without calling friends because I simply forgot.
As a hard introvert and untreated ADHD enjoyer I get it, I really do. I'd love to have a responsive AI assistant remind me about self care stuff instead of having to manually set up dozens of reminders, but not like this, bruh, not like this.
these people don't realize "AI" will only make it worse for them, they're lonely and isolated and AI will absolutely capitalize on that to sell them shit they don't need
look man, my social circle has shrunk as i aged, but i would rather live the rest of my life in contemplative isolation than allow myself to pretend someone else's computer cares about me.
I have this amazing AI program that does this and instead of typing in the information or paying a subscription fee, I feed it tacos and just talk to it. It’s called a friend.
That’s what they hope, but it’s unrealistic and likely impossible.
Look, Spouse had an *undergrad* classmate all hyped on what we now call Agentic AI. In the 90s. 30 years later, it’s just about as bad as it was then.
I asked Spouse to apply the potluck test (could he arrange one) to classmate.
I can’t guess on to where it will develop to. But I can say I’ll never use it myself, for the simple reason that I can never trust what it is telling me.
Yes.
I have a teacher friend who endured all of the horrors of No Child Left Behind and now is looking at the STEM grads and seeing the fruit of that particular poisoned tree. We have done a real number on the intellectual well of the whole culture.
Spouse said the guy shouldn’t be trusted with a microwave.
The people trying to make these programs work are people without the skillsets to either 1) know what it needs to do, or 2) gather requirements from a userbase. But also too arrogant to admit/know they are ignorant.
like you wouldn't want your AI gurlfriend texting you sayin 'hey babe, you're looking fine, time for those kegels'..
can you send chatwhatever pics too? cause bro here's got some size questions only a real AI homie could answer.
I could see a potential use case for people with adhd to have a sort of reminder app that is going to pester you in a somewhat intelligent way about doing your shit but like other than that bro just use a fuckin calendar app or a notebook

But at least today I learned something new

Simply because social anxiety, ADD, person permanence, and many other factors.
Idk exactly what, but something for sure
ahem, "skill issue d00d"
Thing
Like shit’s bad, but not that bad.
AI has an appeal because in theory, it is a “one size fits all” application. If advanced enough, one AI type app could cover a bunch of other ones

but no, instead we have burning rainforests and "actually the myth of white genocide is widely debated" smdh
