The six-foot rule may have first appeared during the flu pandemic of 1918-19, when military officials observed recruits were less likely to get sick/die if their beds were six feet apart. There is a long precedent for these recommendations.

And if you actually read the transcript where Fauci "admitted" that the recommendation wasn't based on science, he's clearly talking about it in contrast to other arbitrary distances!
