Hot take I might make into a video: too many tournaments killed the tournament scene. We are seeing the likes of tournaments that have been around for years barely gain any entries. We are seeing new tournaments pop up every two weeks or so and run with only 4 teams in it.

I would love to see more collaboration (for those who want that TO experience) a bunch of these small events coming together could be cool to see personally and up the quality of our avg event.
Monday-Friday is a different weekly and every Saturday is a different monthly.
This gives the consistency of tournament amounts, but not so many that people have to choose.
This is hard to do over the internet, but definitely possible
We were planning on playing it but saw it was supposed to be two days and then we went "fuck nvm" and we never saw that that changed, if that's the tournament you're talking about
It was everything players wanted on paper, and yet hardly anyone showed.
I think all of us have gotten a bit complacent regarding that because our numbers aren't dropping off that hard for reoccurring events
we only really notice it for events like these
Consistently good matches; the thrill of winning a tight set and getting into the flow state with your team. Higher stakes, more attention on the tourney, prize pools. How do we facilitate good matches? Matching up teams of similar skill...
everyone just wanted results for the hope of higher level consistent practice
I stopped TOing before things got this bad
When Prism Break was quite new another event took our timeslot, instead of merging they were pretty set about running over us
I noticed Prism died with me because that event is now d3 capped (most of the community)
It's also worth noting that the kind of culture orgs have impacts this
Lower player count also means less badges for some events like MMB, making it impossible to get their badges if you're not winning it
Now, its even hard to separate an event despite having a high quality stream unless its heavily advertised (lanchamps) imo
Let's just queue up for SendouQ instead its way more worth our time anyway.
I fear the badge thing for team count rule inflates team count but never high enough to actually have the badges count, so it’s got a very inconsistent and unsatisfying feeling to it imho
Basically MMB itself has a clause that explicitly draws away players from other events
its like every tournament is desperately competing w eachother to Become A Major but are eating eachother in the process
makes sense but unfortunately that just. Doesn't Work Anymore due to all the things you talked about, huh?
Personally, I think the scene is just going through some growing pains right now in terms of player turnout for events.
I'd love to see a buffer period where you have to wait a month or so after your first run to have a badge be added
the combination of it being too easy to get access to create tournaments and too easy to upload a badge has hurt the average tournament quality so much, and Popgun summed it up perfectly when he said so many
I could ramble more, but I need time to think about it
and that's not due to a lack of effort from us, as far as I know we're the only ones in this specific market offering a broadcast
at a time where we are looking for a potential new head TO to join us, we're lacking new applicants who would be available during FTIU (and not playing)
