Christ, this is so bleak. Not just the outsourcing of curation and content creation to a hallucinating algorithm, but the egregious journalist failure of fact-checking said hallucinating algorithm. As the former books editor at USA TODAY, I think I can speak to just how bad a failure this is.

This was just posted by @tbretc.bsky.social on another platform. The Chicago Sun-Times obviously gets ChatGPT to write a ‘summer reads’ feature almost entirely made up of real authors but completely fake books. What are we coming to?
