Bill Clinton banned assault weapons in 1994; mass shootings dropped by 43%.
George W. Bush and the GOP let the assault weapons ban expire in 2004; mass shootings increased by 245%.
These numbers tell the whole story.

Ownership of weapons in the US has always been very high but murder rates have fluctuated vastly. If gun ownership was the cause of violence, this wouldn't be the case.
The USA isn't uniquely mentally ill, but it IS unique in how many guns we have.
Anyway, precisely zero NRA approved politicians are willing to do a goddamned thing about mental health either.
It's just a way to distract from the real issue.
They've thought this through. They've taken the time & resources to acquire the weapon that will inflict the most damage. In both severity & victims.
Respectfully
If you then take the five and put it back to ten, you have a 100% increase.
245% of *43* is 105
They don't have the balls for it, but we need to ban all semiautomatic firearms. Rifles & pistols. Everyone can make do with revolvers & single shot rifles. We're not responsible enough for anything more advanced.
I wish I had a good answer, but I don’t.
You threaten to charge manufacturers as accomplices. What the hell did they think was going to happen when weapons of war ended up in people homes?
It wouldn't be too big of a stretch to paint the lobbyists as merchants of death
I’ve watched this building for over 50 years…it won’t be fixed overnight. Or in my lifetime, I’m afraid.
The problem isn't the lack of an "assault weapons" ban. It's the mass marketing push by NRA and gun makers. The problem is a flooded market.
Which is why they enable and incite it.

Deal with the why behind violence instead. Right wing extremism, no social support structures, no enforcement of laws against domestic violence or sexual abuse etc.
"typical targeters" will be left alone while the cops have yet another excuse to brutalize minorities. Don't give cops more power to rape and kill us. They *will* use it
Go on. Do it. Because 99% of the 1994 AWB was irrelevant garbage that did nothing.
What would happen if they wouldn't have a gun?
Interesting paper on the effects of the introduction of portable self-igniting firearms on violence in Europe.

Beating somebody to death is hard and disgusting work. So is using a knife if you're not trained. Guns make it an easy impulsive act
BUT even better get some gun control on all weapons.
Otherwise those weapons may end up in the wrong, mentally unstable, hands
Let's just say, we in Europe have a different way of thinking about that.
Especially since statistically speaking, the US has around 100 times more deaths per capita than most European countries and Canada.
We want to keep those deaths low over here.
While Romania is incredibly low. Like 140 times lower than Serbia.

How about US gun owners would learn to behave like swizz gun owners? 😉
Because it's also:
More deterrence, less violence.
#banassaultweaponsNOW
Vote blue to save your children
That's a lie.
'04-'13: 33 mass shootings
'13-'22 (when social media explodes in popularity and mental illness / suicide spike): 87.
To me it's really clear that social media is the dominant factor.
No, it's not because of assault weapon bans. That's a preposterous assertion given that the majority of weapons used in these crimes aren't the weapons that were banned.

Try again. Hint, it's always the inequality.
Studies show that societal inequality is a far better predictor of violence.
can't correlate these two events as inflection points to firearm homicides from this data.
Plenty of actual facts support gun control. Let's use those.
The ban expiration does not in itself explain why mass shootings increased by so much more than they’d previously dropped.
245% of *43* is 105
An increase of 245% from there would be about 140.
And then I think: "Right, we have no access to guns that can kill so many people in an instant!"
And then I think: "Must be a coincidence!"
It's not smart to shoot up a place when everyone else is packing too.
There is a *very* big difference between that and strolling around with an assault rifle, just killing people.
Can someone explain it to me like I'm five? And drunk.
