“If the government goes ahead with these cuts, new care homes will to have to be available.”
I spoke to carers about the catastrophic impact of upcoming PIP cuts: when a disabled person loses their benefit, their loved one will lose Carer’s Allowance too. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2025/mar/24/disability-benefit-cut-domino-effect-pip-carers-allowance?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

How do you sleep at night, working for this rag?
If droves of younger disabled people are admitted to Care Homes, bluntly, the Homes will not be able to meet all their needs.
The environments, due to the predominant populations, are utterly unsuitable.
The new "Asylums" v. Workhouses! 🤔😡♿
One has an adult daughter with disability. Her husband gets VA benefits. Her retirement is funded by Tx government, which has not adjusted for cost of living since 2013. Does not regret voting Trump.
Other had to sell their home since husband got cancer.
Note the use of the word "will". That's not up for consultation.
From paragraph 137: "we will introduce a new eligibility requirement to ensure that only those who score a minimum of 4 points in at least one daily living activity will be eligible for the daily living component of PIP".
That's not up for consultation.

Do fuck off telling disabled people calm down.
Surely the whole point of your article is that they would be worse off financially, because they would no longer be paid?
Its given to people for doing something that uses up time they could normally use for earning money
I was not discussing how much it was, whether or not it is sufficient, or even that it isnt paid to pensioners to look after their spouses, I was questioning whether or not it is unpaid if you receive remuneration for it
They're two difference things.
there is a whole different argument for whether carers are paid enough
Pensioners dont receive it for looking after their spouse, presumably because caring for a loved one isnt keeping them from a job
Someone providing a mere 50 hours care a week and getting £80.90 would be earning £1.62 an hour - 14% of the minimum wage. That's not pay.
And there ARE other benefits for couples where one is caregiver to the other.
in that regard it is pay
the rate doesnt matter, a totally seperate argument
We provide care, unpaid, to loved ones. Some get derisory Carers Allowance, only if the person they care for receives a qualifying benefit like PIP.
Most unpaid carers receive nothing.
We all save the state millions
they dont get min wage, but they do get paid, dont they
Some unpaid carers are in receipt of Carers Allowance, a ‘benefit’.
Most unpaid carers receive nothing; this number will increase when disabled people lose their PIP. Saving the state even more.
A more accurate term would be ‘slave Labour’ or ‘state-sanctioned exploitation’.
You have to be there 24 hours a day with no break no pay no holidays no double pay on bank/public holiday oops that supposes your paid .... oh you don't get a handsome pension 😔 🤬 not acceptable 😔
We aren’t economically productive in the wealth-creating machine; at the very bottom of the pecking order.
No recognition of the enormous emotional capital we provide.
We are ignored, exploited and patronisingly patted on the head once a year
I'm 👨🦼 but have advocated on carers behalf from before the 👨🦼 I understand from being a young 'carer' back when it never mattered. ✊🏻✊🏻✊🏻✊🏻
There is so much common ground between disabled folk and unpaid carers. I have foot in both camps. We are demeaned, demonised, dismissed.
We deserve better.
Utterly indefensible
If they give the wrong answer smack them in the face and walk away.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/388885/mp-salary-uk/
there is an independent vboard that sets MPs pay in line with civil servants
their rise is lower than pensioners, and around half the rise in average workers pay
Presumably you would prefer them to have no rise at all?
Even if you were correct, which you are not, do you want to cut the pay of every MP because you think the other lot are trying to take money from you
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/jan/10/mps-should-not-get-pay-rise-says-keir-starmer
none of us can read it
What difference would it make if he still held that view?
How would it be relevant?
He doesnt set MPs pay
How do we book a 1 to 1 when they don't answer?
Every single one of them complicit in this Austerity; unless they openly demand Reeves is expelled from the Party.
Who the hell would want to be Old, Frail and "dependant" in the UK right now.
I hope the Government is paying you well for your trolling.
