A crew of four passengers — led by a cryptocurrency billionaire — is set to launch aboard a SpaceX capsule that will carry them over the Earth’s poles, marking the first time humans have flown such a mission.

Crypto value is based solely on its ability to convince people it has value? I have no problem with people trying to make $$ from it, hey you know there’s risk. I’m against my gov looking at crypto as a means to fund the gov
Stick with the program moron...this is not about NASA...musk has made ludicrous claims for ten years using billions of taxpayer dollars to enrich himself......his Mars manned project was/is/will be impossible...
Hey DUMBFUCK.....elmo has stated publicly he was going to have a manned crew landing on Mars and the moon prior to 2025....I don't give a shit about the contracts you are a fucking moron...elmo is a grifter and a liar and you are too stupid to know the difference....
People genuinely claiming to be pro democracy and peace loving saints while calling for the death of civilians by guilt of association to their own criteria
When I first read it I didn’t see crypto in front of billionaire and I thought it said led by the billionaire (meaning elon) wouldn’t that be nice just him getting shot into space and never returning. He’s too much of a pussy to go into his own space rockets tho
Which one?
The Titanic one, the Maldives ones, the Barrier Reef ones, the Hudson Canyon, the Bahama Banks...?
No matter, they are all super wealthy joyrides with little or no regulation with a 'go at your own risk' clause that, in the end, give me the fear.
So, a Malta-based billionaire who funded the whole thing, a Norwegian Director, a German robotics researcher, and an Australian 'adventurer'...
These are not tourists ?
Good to know.
Falcon 9 has blown up 3 times over the past decade.
Once because of a contractor selling below spec alloys, once because of an unknown failure mode with the COPVs and once because of a design fault on a sensor
In the meantime they’ve also flown over 400 missions with no issue.
"In 2024, SpaceX received at least $3.8 billion in U.S. government contracts, marking a record high for the company, with a majority of the funding going to NASA and the Defense Department. "
This contracts are for specific services. $1.2 billion is for NASA missions to ISS and back as well as the U.S. deorbit vehicle and small launches. $2.6 billion is for DoD missions such as Starshield and NSSL Phase 3
Stop simping for Elon, he wouldn't exist without tax dollars.
"Elon Musk's companies, particularly Tesla and SpaceX, have received significant government funding through contracts, loans, and other forms of support, totaling at least $38 billion."
I can't help but think of all the things that could be done to help humans here on earth with the money that is being spent on an unnecessary flight of questionable scientific value.
"Fram2 stands out because no humans have traveled directly over the Earth’s poles from space, which requires a flight path that’s far more fuel-intensive than chasing orbits closer to the equator." The key words are "from space." It has been done by airplanes.
Not really historic. As Dr. Christopher Combs said, flying a human spaceflight mission around the poles is “a notch above gimmick, but not exactly a groundbreaking milestone.”
He’s not an unbiased source to base your opinions on when he quite literally compared the most reliable rocket ever developed and a spacecraft build to NASA specifications to a shitty submersible built with known failure modes
This mission is historic. Never before have crew launched to a polar orbit before or conducted the research they are doing such as X-rays on orbit for the first time. Launching polar increases the complexity of the mission too.
‘A notch above gimmick’
While a human spaceflight mission has never passed so close to Earth’s poles, experts who spoke with CNN said that there may not be a huge scientific draw to such an effort.
Good luck ! You can’t get along on earth , what you gonna do in space with the rocks? I can see the failure of the SpaceX , it’s an Elon thing . Why travel on it ?
Evil=Greed*Intelligence^Choices
A fish may be Greedy, but a fish lacks the Intellect to understand the damage its Choices do to the Universe.
Capitalist Nazis are more intelligent than fish.
Billionaires shouldn't exist.
No religion needed.
If you may measure money, you may measure Evil.
I’m not even a fan of billionaires? 😭😭 I just like SpaceX. Also wishing death on random people is cool here? It’s just on Bluesky and nowhere else in terms of space.
American Citizens stop Trump from ERASING democracy. Elon committed a crime in WI: bribery. Don’t believe anything FOX NEWS reports; LIES. Visit https://Ballotpedia.org or your local government offices to determine the upcoming elections. It is TIME to VOTE BLUE in WI and FL. https://ballotpedia.org/Elections_calendar
Pretty certain there has been space tourism before. If you don't believe me go ask William Shatner. CNN needs to stop gushing over Musk. The fascists are going to eat CNN under all circumstances. Perhaps CNN should consider maintaining some shred of journalistic integrity in the meantime.
No, but space travel will kill people! It is a total unnecessary energy gobbling hobby that will bring us all down! Ever heard of climate change? About biodiversity, collapsing ecosystems?
I hope it doesn't blow up. But hey, SpaceX is not a good record. Like going to the bottom of the ocean in a mini submarine with an X box handle. Not my thing.
Hopefully it takes off, flies, and lands without any problems at all... then Krasnov, Vance, Musk, and Miller (assuming we can only have four) decide it's safe enough to give it a go... and then... Challenger 2.0.
What? No, I'm never giving up my dream of Elon's hubris getting them all killed.
Are they gonna skip integration tests with these too? I heard about how the guys currently heading those Space X test flights skip those integration tests as a money saving measure, with predictably bad results.
you’re inferring that it’s more dangerous to go to the bottom of the ocean then it is to go to space?
How many of Elons rockets have blown up???
Oh, that’s right… Over 50%
How many submarines have imploded???
ONE since 1900.
And that was in 2023… With a billionaire at the helm…
Falcon 9, the model of rocket they’re launching on, is the single most reliable rocket ever developed with 453 missions and 3 failures. Giving it a 99% reliability and it holds the longest streak ever for an orbital rocket with over 300 consecutive successful missions
Comments
Kenny? He’s not notable
That’s why they’ve spent the best part of a year training and are flying on the most reliable rocket ever developed
They’re flying on SpaceX’s actual operational rocket (Falcon 9) which is quite literally the most reliable rocket ever developed.
This will be SpaceX’s 17th crewed mission and 4th flight of this particular spacecraft (C207 Resilience)
Also this has no relevance to this mission
Mars any day now!!!!!

Everything is delayed in spaceflight sweetheart.
Those were a means to an end for the guy
Asking for Greenland, Canada, Mexico, Panama and Ukraine….
Not that I wish them any harm at all, but... this has a few too many 'deep sea submarine tourism' vibes about it.
The Titanic one, the Maldives ones, the Barrier Reef ones, the Hudson Canyon, the Bahama Banks...?
No matter, they are all super wealthy joyrides with little or no regulation with a 'go at your own risk' clause that, in the end, give me the fear.

Whatever happened to that?
For people claiming to not be Nazis they sure do love drawing swasticas and calling on random people to die
While a human spaceflight mission has never passed so close to Earth’s poles, experts who spoke with CNN said that there may not be a huge scientific draw to such an effort.

Maybe, idk, stop obsessing over one fucking guy
I hope it explodes, or better yet... flies out of control and irreversibly leaves orbit.
So do they deserve to die?
A fish may be Greedy, but a fish lacks the Intellect to understand the damage its Choices do to the Universe.
Capitalist Nazis are more intelligent than fish.
Billionaires shouldn't exist.
No religion needed.
If you may measure money, you may measure Evil.
We're talking about wealth hoarding dragons.
So you’re wishing harm on innocents who aren’t deserving of harm
No human should get on board any Musk flight to space.
All my family's waste since the dawn of time.
Will it become regular?
Giant rocket pollution for the wealthy, of course.
Here’s a better question. Should video games be banned?
Snakes.
Toxic waste.
Exploding unproven rocket travel
Any life insurance company stock suddenly go crazy, cuz these 4 gonna die….
The vehicle they are flying on (Falcon 9) is literally the most reliable rocket ever developed and most flown U.S. launch vehicle in history
Idk I’m starting to get the impression you guys are just sinophobic
What? No, I'm never giving up my dream of Elon's hubris getting them all killed.
There are 3 researchers onboard and 22 research studies including the first xrays on orbit. Like this is the furthest from a joyride as you can get
The crypto stuff is also a means to an end for the guy.

FACTS… 🤣
Also no. 50% of SpaceX’s rockets have not blown up. You are thinking of starship development which consists of prototypes
No religion needed to measure Evil.
