Can we do a #DisabledInSTEM role call please? What's your area of study/work?
I'm Zoë. I've got ADHD and experience anxiety regularly because of it. I'm an analytical scientist, and now manage laboratory facilities at the OU, helping others do their science.
Would love to hear from you all.

I've been a microbiologist for over 20 yrs. I use my expertise to provide knowledge & insight to the next generation of scientists at UoP. We hope to solve the Global #plastic issues.
I also volunteer with Hedgehog Rescues.

Former computational astrophysicist. Mostly black holes and gravitational waves. Also particle physics, exoplanets, cosmology, and fractional calculus.
Now a part time remote tutor
Hoping to get a life
A cancer survivor and Type I diabetic passionate about safe and inclusive fieldwork! I work in remote tropical forests and am working on a PhD right now in Houston, TX.
I have protanopia and a nonverbal learning disability, and have learned in the past few months that I likely have cPTSD.
Looking into grad school and hoping to study #herptiles #birds or #insects
Broke my little heart.
Took me too long to realise I’d been struggling and had been disabled for quite a long time.
I hope there is better support in place now. But probably not.
Too many universities expect their PhD candidates to just tough it out and cope.
I love science communication and helping people, so I try to do this on the side. I run a YouTube channel, Lego workshops, and want to train to mentor https://floodskinner.games/

But I was super active in early Galaxy Zoo days, and ended up working in citizen science. Hope to again.

I honestly want to understand from you all, those with chronic pain how you all do it in the work environment? #DisabledInSTEM
I’m a nurse scientist in the final year of my PhD. I was struggling with continuing to work at the bedside, so I’m thankful I could pivot to the flexibility of academia!
My research focus is LGBTQ+ health, specifically bi+ cancer prevention 🩷💜💙
I am a physicist/mathematician studying
I’m doing a part-time PhD in Medical Sciences where I’m researching experiences of living with & beyond blood cancer.
In my day job I make training content for an online psychiatric company.
I'm a postdoc and incoming ChemE faculty at Carnegie Mellon University. I study reactivity, sustainable chemistry, chemical data science.
Ironically I've spent most of my research career studying #pain and the sensory nervous system as a neuroscientist.
Now doing a lot of podcasting and other #SciComm work as a freelancer.
Deal with multiple autoimmune conditions which impact my mobility and cause chronic pain and nerve issues. Bonus chronic migraines just to keep things extra spicy.
Happy to connect with others 💜
I work in science outreach, mostly co-ordinating but sometimes I get to do hands-on experiments with children and teenagers.
I'm very open with them about having dyspraxia in the hopes I might help any young dyspraxic in the room feel less alone.
If you ever want to chat about the slog, say the word. I remember how much I wish I had support when I went through it.
I’m a data analyst and researcher, formerly in astronomy but now in biophysics - where I study methods of tissue engineering for things like transplants and lab-grown food.

May I ask to be part of this starter pack?
Can I get added, too?
I study how legless lizards and snakes got to be so noodly.
I currently help university researchers get grant funding
I also run a workshop series on how to get into grad school and find non-trash advisors.
