The EU has stated repeatedly that the TCA provides a stable basis for the EU-UK trade relationship and that a review of the TCA in 2026 should focus on implementation rather than renegotiation.
I think until it’s the obviously settled position in the UK and it won’t be all change after the next election ( or even next two), the EU won’t want the upset
After all Johnson gave them almost everything they wanted
Worse than a dead end, you can reverse out of one of those, after all. No, what Starmer and his cabinet are doing is burning bridges as he goes.
He keeps coming up on one-time opportunities, no takesies-backsies, and intentionally dropping them. You could try to recover from a fumble, but not this.
I don't give a toss what happens after I'm dead. It is pointless campaigning to get back the rights & identity stolen from me if they're only going to go to other ppl when I'm dead or too old for it to matter.
If I'm too old or dead to go anywhere or do anything, it doesn't matter. The world ends for me when I'm dead. 'Pie in the sky when you die' is no use to me. I see no point in campaigning if we're not back in within this decade.
I’m not making excuses for the younger generation but I suspect other more pressing concerns and constraints (eg money housing jobs etc) were contributory factors as to demographic
The older generation took a while to appreciate what they had. It’s now more difficult to convey these benefits ..
Taking my rights, & saying, "Oh well, it doesn't matter if you don't get them back when you can use them but other ppl can get them when you're dead"? Screw that.
It continually startles me that the UK Govt (any party) seems to believe that only our desires, red lines etc are important and by implication, “Johnny Foreigner” will simply hop to and give us what we want… Frustrating madness :(
Have been going on for ages about this.I want us to be as close to the EU as possible but to expect they are not going to want considerable concessions is pie in the sky. Some of the “Rejoin” rhetoric has been every bit as misleading as the”they need us more than we need them ….” Narrative.
Another reason why the EU doesn’t trust us and why the UK Government has to build bridges again from scratch. A good thing that the current Government is doing the work that is needed.

Sadly KS is a dead end when it comes to a closer relationship between the UK and the EU.
He keeps coming up on one-time opportunities, no takesies-backsies, and intentionally dropping them. You could try to recover from a fumble, but not this.
Next time it will be possible to reverse out of this particular dead end will be in 2029.
Might of course become increasingly difficult if all the bridges have been burnt by then.
It is a duty for all of us who experienced the pre-Brexit liberties and benefits to ensure that this is sooner rather than later

Still, steady long-term employment for negotiators.
This govt doesn't represent me.
