Grandma is sweet to have animals she can play with! My parents wouldn't let me have a pet until I could help be responsible for care and feeding. It has inspired a lifelong love of animals
We didn't trim one parakeet's wings enough, and she flew away through an open door. Another died when slammed in a door while he followed my sister to the bathroom, and another was killed by a stray cat that ran indoors through an open door. Sadly, they're safer in a cage.
My first pets were parakeets ("Bill" and "Coo"). We have bird feeders up all year. We've seen everything from Bald Eagles to pheasants on our PA property.
I had a parakeet like this when I was her age. Mine was named Pebbles. I loved to listen to her sing while I colored in the kitchen. She used to also sit on my shoulder and peck at my hair. Your grandchild is beautiful. Pets are so important.
Budgies that are hand tamed are the sweetest little pet. I had a sky blue pied for many years and of course I named him Skye. I miss my little budge.
When I retire I may get another one.

I see a bit of you and your mom in her face.
