Nick Clegg says asking artists for use permission would ‘kill’ the AI industry
Comments
It has no legitimate use in aggregating stolen data. As you say, this is organised crime. Clegg, as expected, amoral.
Worse still is that some of these companies have the power to more or less force governments to write laws in their favour.
And not just tech. Energy and raw materials too.
The same applies to copyrighted text and images.
I can see some use for AI, like Grammerly or ProWritingAid.
I can see how it can help someone with disabilties(like Meta-AI Glasses).
What I can not stand is the use of AI to Replace and doing Illegal Things(like stealing works).
I worry as someone who also writes as hobby and post some of it online(for Outreach).
If you're doing fashy crimes and you want some fool to make it look respectable/progressive, Clegg's your man
In a just world, CECOT would be for CEOs.
That said, some of their "legal" activities require scrutiny.
Interestingly, this is the second time in my life, that I know of, that I've been (albeit obliquely here) accused of being a bot.
In case you're wondering, I'm not, but I do need another coffee after minimal sleep.
You come up with a Turing test that doesn't invade my privacy and we'll take it from there.

Come up with a scheme to rook labor and you're on the cover of Forbes.
(This was the first thing that went through my head too.)
Now copyright doesn't matter, because very rich people and their paid pet politicians have decided so.
"Roc-a-fella's founder Jay-Z said asking for permission from rights owners to sample beats would basically kill the hip hop industry in this country overnight."
Record companies would sue the shit out of him and regulators would get involved, but tech bros? Naah...
If an artist doesn't want to give it? Fucking tough.
Copyright IS the act of opting out of allowing your work to be used without your permission, in the first place. It's literally the point.
They’re letting Big Tech steal from them in hopes they create something that can replace us.

They won't learn until we start jailing these corpos and seizing company assets

I would. I would do it. I'd download a car, a house, a person, the whole shebang. I'd download a download. You can't stop me! I'm unhinged!
In fact I'm downloading this image right now!
