And none of that is taking into account that Twitter has been more or less unusable for anything other than conflict, its algorithms so weighted towards hostility that it felt like you being gaslit and punished if you didn't play along with what it wanted, and god help you if you posted a link.

Yeah, that was half the reason I left. I don't have anything I post on Twitter other than random thoughts, I'm not an artist/writer/whatever. But still, the main reason I still primarily used it after I got a Bsky account was because that's where all my follows were and where I would get responses.

When that changed, when all my mutuals and the majority of people I was dedicated to following made bsky accounts, when my Bluesky feed more or less resembled my Twitter feed and I was hearing the X algorithm was worthless?

That's when I removed X from my home screen and never looked back.

It's hard to understate how fucked the algorithm got over there. There were people I'd not see anything from in weeks, and when I'd look their account up, it'd turn out that they had in fact, just been tweeting a couple hours earlier that day. Their stuff just...didn't show up on my Following feed.

A large amount of what I do includes posting links, to my own stuff like Twitch, Youtube, or when talking about games, including links to their store pages, trailers. I get way more engagement here on my threads about games than I had on Twitter in a very, very long time.

I used to do *HUGE* recommendation threads every time there was a Steam sale, and they were very popular, but after Elon took over it was crickets. Because I had the temerity to include a link. I'll do the same kind of threads here now, and they do amazing, so much more comments from everyone.

I don't know how I put up with Twitter as long as I did, and I'm glad there's a viable alternative now.

I'll still occasionally check in, tweet links to my streams or videos, but I don't think anyone even sees them. Whatever presence I had on there is gone or algorithmically suppressed.

People on here are usually genuinely nicer and more understanding of things. There's discourse occasionally but no where near the endless barrage of depressing slop that was thrown at me on a constant basis on Twitter. It just feels nice to post on here and see what everyone is up to.

I miss chill Twitter so much. 2010-2012 were peak times to be there, before brands started opening accounts en masse and outrage merchants set up shop. My friends and I just tweeted random bullshit about our day and one time Mary Chapin Carpenter liked my post and I got so excited. Perfection.

oh so very this. the bluesky experience is that i'm surrounded by the greatest people on the internet and we're having a fun discussion. if an asshole comes up to our table to cause some noise, the block button is an excellent bouncer.
