Honestly, I’m still absorbing this album because there’s so much to it. But it’s a remarkable achievement & there are at least half a dozen songs I flat-out love. I’m also happy to see it getting so much appreciation from critics & listeners outside the base of die-hard Waterboys fans like me.
One slightly inane comment after a single listening to each (apart from 'Hopper's On Top' because I've seen the video a few times on our local music TV channel) is that they all seem relatively short. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing. 🙄😑
Yes, I think that's by design — part of the kaleidoscopic effect of the album. To me it's like one of those movies where various scenes from somebody's life flash by quickly, creating an intense cumulative impact.
This is not only superb, but I love the fact that Mike's collaboration with Steve Earle puts him one degree of separation from one of my other most-favored artists, Joan Baez.
